The drive from LHR to Southampton Cruise Port
From Heathrow, your driver takes the M25 briefly south-west, then the M3 motorway past Winchester towards Southampton, joining the M27 or the A33 into the city and the docks. It is motorway almost all the way, and the drive takes 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes.
Southampton's cruise terminals are spread across the Eastern and Western Docks, with separate entrances. On busy turnaround days several ships share the port and traffic builds around the dock gates late in the morning. Your driver knows which gate serves your terminal.
Meeting your driver at Heathrow
Heathrow has four passenger terminals: 2, 3, 4 and 5 (British Airways mainly uses Terminal 5). After passport control and baggage reclaim, walk through customs into the arrivals hall. Your driver waits there holding a sign with your name, then walks you to the car in the short-stay car park next to the terminal.

Also in the Western Docks. Horizon, opened in 2024, is the port's newest terminal.
When to book your Southampton Cruise Port transfer
Southampton's main cruise season runs from April to October, with sailings to the Norwegian fjords, the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands, plus transatlantic and winter sailings all year. Weekend turnaround days are the busiest, often with several ships in port.
If you are flying in on embarkation day, choose a flight that lands in the morning and allow for Heathrow's passport queues. Many overseas passengers fly in the day before.

Local tips for your Southampton Cruise Port transfer
- Attach your cruise luggage labels before you leave Heathrow, so the porters can take your bags as soon as you arrive.
- Tell us your ship and sailing date as well as your flight, and we'll work out the right terminal and gate.
- Disembarking? Ships usually start clearing passengers from about 7am. For a Heathrow flight, allow at least five hours between disembarkation and departure.
- Staying in London first? We also drive from central London to Southampton, about 2 hours.
