Private Airport Transfers in Mexico

Mexico's two busiest beach gateways, Cancún International Airport and Los Cabos International Airport, greet arriving passengers the same way: a hall of timeshare sellers and transport touts between customs and the exit. A pre-booked private transfer means you walk straight through all of it to a driver who is already waiting for you outside.

From Cancún we drive the whole Riviera Maya, from the Cancún Hotel Zone twenty minutes away to Playa del Carmen and Tulum. In Baja California Sur we cover the Tourist Corridor from San José del Cabo to Cabo San Lucas, and on the Pacific coast Puerto Vallarta to Punta Mita. Every quote is one fixed price for the whole vehicle, with tolls, waiting time and flight tracking included.

After immigration and customs you pass through a hall of desks and uniformed staff offering taxis, tours and "free" gifts. Locals call it the shark tank. Most of the offers lead to timeshare presentations, and none of them are your transfer.

You don't need to stop. Your driver waits outside the terminal doors, where pre-booked transport is allowed to collect passengers. A polite "no, thank you, I have a ride" is enough, and there is no need to tell anyone inside your hotel name or booking details. On the Riviera Maya, Federal Highway 307 is a four-lane highway running south from Cancún through Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Akumal to Tulum. It is in good condition, but slows for speed bumps (topes) and traffic lights in each town. In Los Cabos, Highway 1 links the airport, San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas along the Tourist Corridor.

Our drivers know these roads at every hour, including late-evening arrivals when the airport taxi queue is at its longest. Journey times on each route page assume normal traffic, with a buffer for the afternoon peak.

High season runs from mid-December to April, with the busiest weeks over Christmas, New Year and the US spring break in March. Book transfers early for these dates, as vehicles for larger groups go first.

June to November is hurricane season, most active from August to October. Seaweed (sargassum) can reach Caribbean beaches in spring and summer; it varies by year and by beach. Los Cabos has its own calendar: whale-watching season runs from December to March and the weather stays dry most of the year.

Your transfer is paid in advance, so you don't need cash for the ride itself. Tipping drivers is customary in Mexico and always at your discretion: many travellers give around 10% of the fare or US$10–20, more if the driver has handled a lot of luggage or a long wait.
