Private transfer from Cancún Airport to Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen sits in the middle of the Riviera Maya, 54 km south of Cancún Airport. That is close enough for a quick trip, and far enough that a shared shuttle stopping at every resort on the way can turn it into a two-hour ordeal. With a private transfer you walk out of arrivals into your own vehicle and reach Playa in under an hour.
Playa is a town rather than a resort strip, which is why door-to-door service is worth having. Hotels and condos line the pedestrian Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue) and the streets around it, the gated Playacar resort area lies to the south, and the Cozumel ferry leaves from the centre. Your driver knows the one-way grid and stops as close to your door as the streets allow.

The drive from CUN to Playa del Carmen
From the airport your driver takes Federal Highway 307 south, a four-lane highway parallel to the coast that passes the fishing village of Puerto Morelos and a long row of resort entrances. There are no tolls and the road is good, so most of the 45 to 55 minutes is steady highway driving.
Traffic builds as the highway enters Playa del Carmen, where the main junctions have traffic lights; the slowest time is the late afternoon and early evening. From the highway your driver turns down towards the sea on the street nearest your hotel. Most of central Playa is a grid of one-way streets, and Fifth Avenue itself is closed to cars.
Meeting your driver at Cancún Airport
Cancún Airport has four terminals, and international flights arrive at Terminals 2, 3 and 4; check your airline's terminal before you land. After immigration and customs, you walk through a long hall of desks offering taxis, tours and "free" gifts. Locals call it the shark tank, and you don't need to stop in it.
Keep walking until you are outside the building. Your driver waits just outside the arrivals exit, in the area reserved for pre-booked transport, holding a sign with your name. If you can't see them straight away, don't accept help from anyone else: message the WhatsApp number we sent you and your driver will come to you.

When to book your Playa del Carmen transfer
Playa del Carmen is busiest from mid-December to April, with the peak weeks over Christmas, New Year and the US spring break in March. Summer is quieter and hotter; the hurricane season runs from June to November, most active from August to October.
Friday and Saturday evenings bring more traffic into town, but the transfer rarely takes more than an hour.

Local tips for your Playa del Carmen transfer
- Staying near Fifth Avenue? Pack a bag you can roll: the last few metres to many hotels are on foot.
- Heading to Cozumel? Ferries leave from the pier in the centre of Playa, and we can drop you right there.
- Playacar is a gated community. Have your booking name ready at the gate; your driver will do the talking.
- For your flight home, leave Playa del Carmen about four hours before an international departure.
