Most of Punta Cana's hotels aren't in Punta Cana at all. The long beach north of Punta Cana International Airport, running through Bávaro, Arena Gorda, Cortecito and Cabeza de Toro, holds the biggest concentration of all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean, and most of them are 20 to 30 minutes from the terminal.
That is a short drive, but the shared resort shuttle can make it a long one: it waits for other passengers, then stops at resort after resort. A private transfer leaves when you are ready and goes straight to your lobby, for a fixed price per vehicle agreed before you fly.

The drive from PUJ to Bávaro & Punta Cana Resorts
From the airport, your driver heads north towards Bávaro, taking Avenida Barceló or the Boulevard Turístico del Este depending on your resort. Both are good, wide roads, and outside the evening rush the drive is quick and easy.
Resorts along the coast are reached through their own gated entrances, often down a long private drive from the main road to the lobby. Your driver knows which gate is which, and that matters here: several resort groups run two or three hotels with similar names side by side.
Meeting your driver at Punta Cana Airport
Punta Cana's open-air terminals, with their palm-thatched roofs, make arrivals feel like a resort from the start. After immigration, collect your bags, clear customs and follow the signs to the exit. Tour operator reps and shuttle companies wait in the arrivals area outside the building; your private driver waits with them, holding a sign with your name.

When to book your Bávaro & Punta Cana Resorts transfer
The dry season, from December to April, is the busiest time on the east coast, with Christmas, New Year and North American spring break the peak weeks. Book early if you are travelling then, especially for groups.
The hurricane season runs from June to November, most active from August to October. Summer is hot, humid and quieter, with lower resort rates.
