Punta Cana International Airport is the busiest airport in the Caribbean, and almost every one of its passengers is heading to a resort within an hour's drive. The biggest concentration of hotels is in Bávaro and the Punta Cana beaches, 20 to 30 minutes north. Cap Cana and Juanillo are closer still, to the south, and the newer resorts of Macao and Uvero Alto are 40 to 50 minutes up the coast.
A private transfer leaves when you walk out of arrivals and goes straight to your lobby. For a family of four, one fixed vehicle price often costs about the same as four seats on the shared shuttle.
Arriving at Punta Cana Airport: where to meet your driver
Punta Cana's open-air terminals, with their palm-thatched roofs, make arrivals feel like a resort from the start. After immigration, collect your bags, clear customs and follow the signs to the exit. Tour operator reps and shuttle companies wait in the arrivals area outside the building; your private driver waits with them, holding a sign with your name.
