Most visitors to the Dominican Republic land at Punta Cana International Airport, the busiest airport in the Caribbean and the gateway to the all-inclusive resorts of the east coast. The resorts are close: Bávaro and the Punta Cana beaches are twenty to thirty minutes away, Cap Cana even closer. What makes the difference is how you get there.
Shared resort shuttles wait until the bus is full, then stop at every hotel on the route. A private transfer leaves when you walk out of arrivals and takes your group straight to your own lobby, with a fixed price agreed before you fly.
Where the resorts are
The east coast resort strip runs north from the airport. Bávaro and Arena Gorda hold the biggest concentration of all-inclusive hotels; Cabeza de Toro and Cortecito are quieter; Macao and Uvero Alto further north have newer, more secluded resorts about 40 to 50 minutes away. South of the airport, Cap Cana and Juanillo are gated luxury developments around a marina and golf courses.
Resort addresses here can be confusing, because many hotels share the same boulevard and similar names. Give us the exact resort name when you request a quote and your driver will take you to the right gate.
Best time to travel
Dry season, from December to April, is the busiest time of year, with Christmas, New Year and the North American spring break the peak weeks. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November. Summer is hotter and quieter, and a good time for resort deals.

How far is Punta Cana Airport from the resorts?
Most Bávaro resorts are 20 to 30 minutes from the airport. Cap Cana is 15 to 20 minutes, while Uvero Alto and Macao in the north are 40 to 50 minutes. See Punta Cana Airport transfers for each route.
Is a private transfer better than the resort shuttle?
Shared shuttles are cheaper per seat but wait for other flights and stop at several hotels. A private transfer leaves as soon as you are through arrivals and goes direct. For a family or group, one fixed vehicle price often costs about the same as several shuttle seats.
Do I need cash for my transfer?
No. Your transfer is paid in advance. Tipping your driver is appreciated but optional; US dollars are widely accepted.
