Barcelona Airport to city centre, door to door

El Prat is close to the city: about 17 km by road from the terminals to Plaça de Catalunya. A private transfer from Barcelona Airport to the city centre takes around 25 minutes outside the rush hours. Your driver meets you in arrivals at Barcelona Airport, takes your bags and drives you to your hotel, apartment or office door.

Barcelona has good airport buses and a metro line, and for light travellers they are good value. The car is worth it with luggage or children, for groups who split one price, for apartments where you need to find the right door and meet the key holder, and for hotels in streets that the bus and metro do not reach directly.

The drive from BCN to Barcelona City Centre

From the terminals, your driver takes the C-31 motorway north-east along the edge of the Llobregat delta and enters the city on the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, the long avenue that runs straight to Plaça d'Espanya and on into Eixample. For Barceloneta, Port Olímpic and Diagonal Mar, the driver uses the Ronda Litoral ring road along the waterfront instead, passing below Montjuïc and the port.

Outside rush hours the drive takes about 25 minutes. Weekday traffic peaks roughly between 7:00 and 9:30 and between 17:30 and 20:00, when it can take 40 minutes or more.

Central Barcelona has changed a lot for drivers in recent years. Much of the Gothic Quarter is closed to general traffic, and several Eixample streets, such as parts of Consell de Cent, have become pedestrian-priority green streets. Tell us your exact address and the driver plans the closest legal stop.

Meeting your driver at Barcelona Airport

Barcelona Airport has two terminals about 3 km apart: Terminal 1, used by most full-service and long-haul airlines, and Terminal 2, used by many low-cost carriers. Check yours before you land. After customs, your driver waits in the arrivals hall of your terminal holding a sign with your name.

Barcelona Airport has two terminals, 10 to 15 minutes apart by the free shuttle bus. Terminal 1 handles Vueling, Iberia, British Airways and most long-haul airlines; Terminal 2 handles Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2 and other low-cost carriers. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall of your terminal with a sign showing your name and walks you to the car park where private hire cars collect passengers.

We track your flight, move the pickup with any delay at no extra cost, and give you 60 minutes of free waiting from your actual landing. For the trip back to the airport, the driver collects you from your door and waits up to 15 minutes.

Where we drop off in Barcelona

Most of Barcelona is door to door. In the old town, where many lanes are closed to cars, the drop-off is the nearest street the car can reach, usually a minute or two on foot. For holiday apartments, send the exact address and the name of the key holder.

Eixample and Passeig de Gràcia

The grid of avenues north of Plaça de Catalunya, with Casa Batlló and La Pedrera. Door to door on most streets.

Gothic Quarter and El Born

The medieval old town, largely closed to cars. Drop-off on Via Laietana or the nearest open street.

Barceloneta and Port Olímpic

Beach hotels and apartments along the waterfront, via the Ronda Litoral.

Diagonal Mar and Poblenou

Modern beach-side hotels and the 22@ business district, east of the centre.

Sagrada Família and Gràcia

Hotels around the basilica and in the village-like streets of Gràcia.

When to book your Barcelona City Centre transfer

Barcelona is a year-round city with peaks in May, August and September. The biggest single event is Mobile World Congress, from 1 to 4 March 2027 at Fira Gran Via, which sits between the airport and the city: during congress week hotels fill and the roads around the fair are slow, so book early.

The Festes de la Mercè, the city's main festival, take over the streets around 24 September with parades, fireworks and road closures in the old town. On busy cruise days in summer, traffic on the Ronda Litoral near the port is heavier.

December to February is the quietest season, and the easiest time for a quick transfer into the centre.

Who the Barcelona City Centre transfer suits

Child seats fitted before pickup, no metro stairs or bus queues, and a minivan for up to seven people with luggage.

Apartment renters

Groups

One price for the whole vehicle. Minibuses take groups of up to 16 with their bags.

Plan the rest of your Barcelona trip

  • Book timed tickets for the Sagrada Família and Park Güell before you travel. Both sell out days ahead in spring and summer.
  • Most Barcelona restaurants serve dinner from about 8:30pm. If you land in the afternoon, a late lunch fits the local rhythm better.
  • Keep bags close on La Rambla and the metro. Pickpocketing is common in the busiest tourist areas.
  • Staying on the coast instead? We also quote Barcelona Airport to Sitges, Salou and the Costa Brava.
  • Moving on in Spain? We run transfers at Málaga Airport to Marbella and Ibiza Airport, and quote Madrid Airport to the city centre.
  • For your flight home, leave central Barcelona about two and a half hours before a European departure, and allow longer at weekday rush hours.

Barcelona Airport to Barcelona City Centre: your questions

How long does it take from Barcelona Airport to the city centre?

About 25 minutes by car to Plaça de Catalunya, a distance of about 17 km, outside rush hours. On weekday mornings and evenings it can take 40 minutes or more. Barceloneta and the waterfront are reached on the Ronda Litoral in a similar time.

How much is a private transfer from Barcelona Airport to the city?

One fixed price for the whole vehicle, not per person. It depends on the vehicle size, your drop-off address, and the date and time. Flight tracking and waiting time are included, and the price does not change if you hit traffic. Enter your trip above and we will email your price within 24 hours.

Is the Aerobús or a private car better?

For one or two people with light luggage, the Aerobús is quick and good value, every few minutes from both terminals to Plaça de Catalunya. But it stops at fixed points, so you walk or take a taxi to your hotel. With children, heavy bags, a group or an apartment address, a car to the door is simpler.

Which terminal will I arrive at in Barcelona?

Terminal 1 for Vueling, Iberia, British Airways, Lufthansa, Air France, KLM and most long-haul airlines. Terminal 2 for Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2, Wizz Air and other low-cost carriers. We track your flight, so the driver waits at the right terminal. A free shuttle bus links the two around the clock.

Can the car reach my hotel in the Gothic Quarter?

Many lanes in the Gothic Quarter and El Born are closed to general traffic, so the car usually stops on Via Laietana or the nearest open street, a short walk from the door. Hotels on the edge of the old town are door to door. Tell us your exact address and the driver will plan the closest legal stop.

Where will my driver meet me at Barcelona Airport?

In the arrivals hall of your terminal, holding a sign with your name, after you collect your bags. Your driver’s name and phone number reach you before the trip, so you can message them on WhatsApp. The driver then walks you to the car park where private hire cars collect passengers.

Do you also go to the Barcelona cruise port?

Yes. All cruise ships now berth at the Moll Adossat terminals, about 15 to 25 minutes from the airport. See our guide to the Barcelona Airport to cruise port transfer, or enter your ship’s terminal in the form above.
