Your Florence to Siena transfer, the fast way or through Chianti
A private Florence to Siena transfer takes about 1 hour 10 minutes on the direct road, door to door. We pick you up at Florence Airport or from any hotel in the city, and drop you inside Siena's walls where your hotel can register the car, or at the agriturismo, villa or winery where you are staying.
The bus and train both arrive outside Siena's walls, and the train station sits at the bottom of the hill with a long escalator ride up to the old town. That is fine with a small bag. With suitcases, or if you are staying in the Chianti countryside, a car is the only practical way to arrive.
The same transfer can take the slower, prettier road through the Chianti hills, with a stop at a winery if you like. Flying into Pisa instead? See our Pisa to Florence transfer; we can also quote Pisa Airport straight to Siena.

The drive from FLR to Siena
The direct road is the Raccordo Firenze–Siena (RA3), a toll-free dual carriageway of 56 km that locals call the Autopalio. From the airport your driver crosses the Arno on the A1 viaduct, joins the Raccordo at Firenze Scandicci and runs south past San Casciano, Tavarnelle and Poggibonsi. Shortly before Siena the walls and towers of Monteriggioni appear on a hilltop to the right.
The alternative is the Chiantigiana (SR222), the old road through Greve, Panzano and Castellina in Chianti. It is about 70 km of curves between vineyards and olive groves, and it adds 30 to 45 minutes of driving before any stops. It is the road to take if you want to see Chianti on the way, or if your farm stay is near Greve or Castellina.
Siena's historic centre is a limited-traffic zone around the clock. Hotels inside the walls can register a guest's car for free, so give us your hotel name and the driver will arrange access. Some streets, including the area around the Campo, are closed to cars altogether; there the drop-off is the nearest gate, a short walk away.

Meeting your driver at Florence Airport
Florence Airport has one small passenger terminal. After baggage reclaim, walk out through the arrivals exit, where your driver waits holding a sign with your name. The tram stop for the city is just outside; your car is parked a short walk away.
At Florence Airport your driver waits at the arrivals exit with a name sign. We track your flight, adjust the pickup to any delay at no extra cost, and give you 60 minutes of free waiting from the actual landing. If your flight is diverted to Pisa or Bologna, which happens at Florence when the wind is wrong, message us on WhatsApp straight away and we will help you rearrange the pickup.
Starting from a Florence hotel instead? The driver collects you at the agreed time and waits up to 15 minutes. Hotels inside Florence's own ZTL register the car the same way Siena hotels do.

Where we drop off in Siena and Chianti
Inside Siena's walls, access depends on your hotel registering the car; outside them, every address is door to door. In the countryside many farm stays and wineries sit at the end of a gravel road (strada bianca). Tell us if yours does, so we send a vehicle that suits it.
Siena centro storico
Hotels inside the walls, near the Duomo or along the Banchi di Sopra. Door to door where the hotel registers the car.
Porta Camollia and Porta San Marco
City gates on the north and south-west sides, each with a car park close by. The drop-off when your street is closed to cars.
Chianti villages
Greve, Panzano, Castellina, Radda and Gaiole, all reachable from the Chiantigiana or the Raccordo.
Farm stays and villas
Agriturismi between Florence and Siena, many on gravel lanes. Send a map pin and any access notes with your quote request.
San Gimignano and Monteriggioni
Hilltop towns just off the Raccordo. Popular as a stop on the way or as a base of their own.

When to book your Siena transfer
Siena's two Palio horse races, normally on 2 July and 16 August, take over the city: the centre is closed to traffic for the day and every hotel is full. Rain can postpone the race, as happened to both races in 2026. If you are arriving on a Palio day, expect to be dropped outside the walls and walk in.
From mid-September to early October the Chianti grape harvest is under way, and the Greve wine festival takes over the town square on the second weekend of September. October also brings the L'Eroica vintage cycling event, starting in Gaiole, which slows the country roads around it.
Spring and autumn are the best seasons for this transfer: the Raccordo is quiet, the hills are green or turning gold, and winery visits are easy to book.
Private transfer vs other ways to reach Siena
| Option | Door to door | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 1h 5min – 1h 25min | Straight to your door, fixed price per vehicle, driver waiting in arrivals. |
| Tram + rapid bus | 1¾–2 hours | The T2 tram from Florence Airport to Santa Maria Novella, then the 131R rapid coach from the bus station next door to Siena, about 1 hour 15. It stops at Piazza Gramsci, outside the centre. |
| Tram + train | 2–2½ hours | Direct regional trains from Santa Maria Novella take about 1 hour 20 to 1 hour 35. Siena station is below the old town, with escalators up to Porta Camollia. |
| Rental car | 1¼ hours plus parking | Easy on the Raccordo, but Siena’s ZTL fines unregistered cars and its car parks outside the walls fill up in summer. |

Vehicles, prices and what's included
You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Couples and solo travellers |
| Executive sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Mercedes E-Class or similar |
| Minivan | Up to 7 passengers | 6–7 suitcases | Families and golf or ski bags |
| Minibus | 8–16 passengers | One suitcase each | Groups, weddings, events |
Exact models vary by local partner. Tell us about oversized luggage, golf bags, skis or strollers and we will size the vehicle to fit.
Not included: waiting beyond the free time, and stops or detours added on the day. Planned stops are fine: ask for them with your quote and they are priced in. Tipping is up to you.
Who the Siena transfer suits
Wine lovers
Take the Chiantigiana and add a winery tasting on the way. Planned stops are priced into your quote, and the driver does the driving afterwards.
Farm-stay and villa guests
The last kilometre to many Chianti agriturismi is a gravel lane with no signs. Send a map pin and the driver finds it for you.
Palio visitors
On race days the centre is closed and the trains are packed. A booked car gets you to the nearest gate and back afterwards.
Families and groups
One price for the whole car, child seats on request, and a minivan for up to seven people with their luggage.
Plan the rest of your Siena and Chianti stay
- Book the Palio well ahead if you want a seat in the stands. Standing in the middle of the Campo is free but means arriving early and staying put.
- San Gimignano is about 20 minutes off the Raccordo at Poggibonsi. A morning stop on the way to Siena beats the midday coach crowds.
- Climb the Torre del Mangia or the Facciatone early in the day. Both have limited places at a time, and queues build quickly in summer.
- Many Chianti wineries ask you to book tastings in advance, especially at weekends. Ask your hotel or agriturismo to recommend one near your route.
- Heading to Florence or Pisa for your flight home? Allow about 1 hour 15 minutes to Florence Airport and about 2 hours to Pisa, plus check-in time.
- Continuing south? We quote longer transfers from Siena to Rome and down to the Amalfi Coast, and run airport transfers right across Italy.
