Your Naples to Amalfi transfer, door to door
A private Naples to Amalfi transfer is the simplest way to cover the 64 km between Capodichino and the Amalfi Coast. Your driver meets you in arrivals at Naples Airport, loads the luggage once and drives you over the Lattari Mountains to Amalfi in about 1 hour 15 minutes, a little longer on summer afternoons.
The public alternative is two buses with a change in Sorrento, or a train and a ferry, and both mean dragging cases on and off at every step. In a private car the price is fixed for the whole vehicle, so a family of four or a group of six pays the same as a couple.
Amalfi is also the best base on the coast for Ravello, Atrani, Minori and Maiori, all of which we cover on the same quote. Staying further west? See Naples Airport to Positano or Naples to Sorrento.

The drive from NAP to Amalfi
There are three ways over the mountains from Naples, and a local driver picks one on the day. The most direct leaves the A3 motorway at Castellammare di Stabia and climbs the SS366 through Gragnano to Agerola, 600 metres up, before dropping in hairpins through Furore and Conca dei Marini to the coast road a few kilometres west of Amalfi. That is the line on the diagram below: about 64 km.
The second option stays on the A3 to Vietri sul Mare and follows the coast west through Cetara, Maiori, Minori and Atrani. It is longer but avoids the mountain pass, and it is the natural choice for Ravello hotels, which sit above Atrani. The third crosses the Valico di Chiunzi pass from the Angri side and comes down into Maiori.
On restriction days, the Amalfi Coast road (SS163) runs an odd-even number-plate scheme between 10:00 and 18:00. Licensed hire cars with a driver are exempt, so your transfer runs on any date; rental cars are not, which catches out many first-time visitors. Large coaches over 10.36 metres are banned from the coast road altogether, which is why tour groups transfer in minibuses.

Meeting your driver at Naples Airport
Naples Airport has one passenger terminal, with arrivals on the ground floor. After baggage reclaim, walk out into the arrivals hall, where your driver waits holding a sign with your name. The car is parked a short walk from the terminal exit.
Add your flight number when you book and we track it: if the flight is delayed, the pickup moves with it at no extra cost, and your 60 minutes of free waiting start when you actually land, not at the scheduled time. Your driver's name and mobile number reach you before the trip, so you can message them from the baggage hall.
For the trip home, your driver collects you from your hotel door or the nearest point the car can reach in Amalfi, and waits up to 15 minutes from the agreed time. Give us your flight time and we will suggest a pickup that allows for the coast road.

Where we drop off in Amalfi, Atrani and Ravello
Amalfi's centre is a pedestrian maze of lanes and stairways behind the cathedral. Cars stop on the seafront or at hotels on the coast road, and from April to October the streets around Piazza Duomo close to all traffic in four short windows each day. Licensed hire cars may still enter when the ride starts or ends there. Tell us your hotel and we will plan the closest legal stop.
Amalfi seafront and Piazza Duomo
Most visitors are dropped by the harbour, a two-minute walk from the cathedral steps. Hotels on the coast road get door-to-door service.
Atrani
A tiny village one bay east of Amalfi. The road runs above it, and the piazza is a short flight of steps down from the drop-off.
Ravello
Seven kilometres up a winding side road from Atrani. Several of the larger hotels have their own car access; the village centre is on foot.
Minori and Maiori
Flatter, quieter beach towns 3 to 5 km east of Amalfi on the coast road, with easy door-to-door drop-offs.
Conca dei Marini and Furore
Cliff-top villas and hotels west of Amalfi. Share a map pin: some gates are on unmarked bends.

When to book your Amalfi transfer
The Amalfi Coast season runs from Easter to the end of October. In August and September the plate scheme runs daily and the coast road is at its slowest between late morning and early evening, so a 75-minute transfer can stretch to an hour and three quarters. Landing before noon or after about 6pm usually beats the worst of it.
Ravello's summer music festival fills the hilltop hotels from early July to early September, and Amalfi and Atrani mark the Byzantine New Year around 1 September with costumed processions. Religious processions for Sant'Andrea close parts of Amalfi on 27 June and 30 November.
November 2026: Naples Airport is closed to all flights from 1 to 30 November 2026 for runway works, and part of its traffic moves to Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport. Salerno is actually closer to Amalfi, along the coast road from Vietri. If your flight has been moved, enter Salerno Airport as your pickup and we will quote from there.
Private transfer vs other ways to reach Amalfi
| Option | Door to door | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 1h 15min – 1h 45min | Straight to your door, fixed price per vehicle, driver waiting in arrivals. |
| Airport bus + SITA bus | 3 hours or more | The Curreri coach runs eight times a day to Sorrento, then the SITA bus continues along the coast to Amalfi. Two buses, one change, and long queues in summer. |
| Alibus + ferry | 2½–3 hours | Alibus to the Molo Beverello pier, then a ferry of nearly two hours to Amalfi. Seasonal only, April to October, and cancelled in rough seas. |
| Train + ferry via Salerno | 2½–3 hours | Alibus to Napoli Centrale, a train to Salerno, then the 35-minute Travelmar ferry. Scenic in good weather, with three changes and a walk to the pier. |
| Rental car | 1¼–2 hours plus parking | Subject to the odd-even plate rule on the coast road, and Amalfi's car parks are small and expensive. Not a first-day drive. |

Vehicles, prices and what's included
You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Couples and solo travellers |
| Executive sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Mercedes E-Class or similar |
| Minivan | Up to 7 passengers | 6–7 suitcases | Families and golf or ski bags |
| Minibus | 8–16 passengers | One suitcase each | Groups, weddings, events |
Exact models vary by local partner. Tell us about oversized luggage, golf bags, skis or strollers and we will size the vehicle to fit.
Not included: waiting beyond the free time, and stops or detours added on the day. Planned stops are fine: ask for them with your quote and they are priced in. Tipping is up to you.
Who the Amalfi transfer suits
Couples on a first trip to the coast
No bus queue in Sorrento, no stairs with suitcases at the ferry pier. The first view of the Gulf of Salerno comes from the back seat.
Families
Child and booster seats fitted before pickup, and one price for the car rather than per person. A minivan takes up to seven with luggage.
Weddings and groups
Amalfi and Ravello are favourite wedding venues. Minibuses run within the coast road size limits; tell us about guests arriving on different flights.
Late arrivals
The last airport bus to Sorrento leaves at 19:30. A pre-booked car is the only easy way to reach Amalfi after an evening landing.
Plan the rest of your Amalfi Coast stay
- Book dinner for your first night before you land. Amalfi restaurants with sea views fill up by early evening from June to September.
- Check how many steps your hotel has. Many Amalfi and Atrani hotels sit 50 to 200 steps above the road, so pack in bags you can carry or ask the hotel about porters.
- Sightseeing in Ravello is easiest in the morning, before the day buses arrive. Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone are both a short walk from the village square.
- Ferries from Amalfi to Positano and Capri run from the harbour in season. Use them for day trips rather than driving the coast road yourself.
- Moving on later in the trip? We quote hotel-to-hotel transfers along the coast and to Rome, the Civitavecchia cruise port or Naples station.
- For the flight home, leave Amalfi about three and a half hours before a European departure from Naples, and four hours before a long-haul one. Add time in August.
