Incheon Airport to Seoul: AREX, bus or private car?
Incheon Airport to Seoul is a longer trip than the name suggests. Incheon International Airport is built on Yeongjong Island in the Yellow Sea, about 60 km by road from City Hall and 66 km from Gangnam. A private car covers it in about an hour when traffic is light, straight from the arrivals hall to your hotel.
Seoul's airport transport is excellent, so here is the fair comparison. The AREX express train runs non-stop to Seoul Station in well under an hour, and limousine buses serve most hotel districts with the luggage in the hold. For one or two people travelling light, either is a good choice.
The car makes sense when the bags are heavy, when there are children or older travellers, when you land late in the evening, or when your hotel in Gangnam, Jamsil or Itaewon is one or two subway changes from Seoul Station. One fixed price covers the whole vehicle, so a family or a group of friends shares it. Many visitors combine Seoul with Japan; we also drive Haneda to central Tokyo.

The drive from ICN to Seoul
From either terminal your driver joins the Incheon International Airport Expressway (Route 130), a toll road that crosses to the mainland on the Yeongjong Bridge, a 4.4 km double-deck bridge shared with the AREX railway. The expressway runs east past Gimpo Airport to the western edge of Seoul, where it meets the city's riverside expressways.
For Gangnam, Jamsil and the south bank, the route follows the Olympic-daero along the Han River past Yeouido and Banpo, then turns south into Gangnam. That is the line on the diagram: about 66 km. For Myeongdong, Jongno, Hongdae and the north bank, the driver takes the Gangbyeon-bukro on the other side of the river, about 60 km to City Hall.
The other way in is the 21 km Incheon Bridge to Songdo and the Second Gyeongin Expressway, which drivers use for Songdo and southern Seoul or when the northern route is slow. All tolls are included in your price.
In light traffic the drive takes about an hour. The airport expressway usually flows; the slow part is inside Seoul, where the riverside roads fill on weekday mornings and evenings and on Friday nights, stretching the trip to around 1 hour 40 minutes. The Seollal and Chuseok holidays bring heavy traffic out of the city and back.
Coming in along the Olympic-daero you follow the Han for the last half hour, with the 63 Building on Yeouido and, after dark, the lit bridges reflected in the river.

Meeting your driver at Incheon Airport
Incheon has two terminals about 15 minutes apart by road: Terminal 2 for Korean Air and many of its partner airlines, Terminal 1 for most others. Arrivals are on the first floor of both. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name and walks you to the car. Free shuttle buses link the terminals about every 10 minutes from 05:00 to 23:00.

Arrivals are on the first floor of both. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign and walks you to the car, which is parked nearby. If you need to switch terminals, a free shuttle bus runs between them about every 10 minutes from 05:00 to 23:00, and AREX trains take 6 minutes.
We track your flight, move the pickup for delays at no extra cost and start your 60 minutes of free waiting when you actually land. For the return, your driver collects you from your hotel and waits up to 15 minutes from the agreed time.

Where we drop off in Seoul
Seoul is spread along both banks of the Han, and every address is door to door. Hotels on the north bank, in the old centre, are closest to the airport; Gangnam and Jamsil are further on. Hanok guesthouses in the palace district sit on steep, narrow lanes, where the car stops at the nearest point. Send us the address in Korean, or a map pin.
Gangnam, Samseong and Apgujeong
Business hotels, the COEX convention centre and the shopping streets of Garosu-gil and Apgujeong on the south bank. About an hour from Incheon when the Olympic-daero is moving.
Myeongdong, City Hall and Namdaemun
Hotels in the old centre near Deoksugung palace and Namdaemun market, about 60 km from the airport. The core of Myeongdong’s shopping streets is pedestrian, so some hotels are a short walk from the car.
Jongno, Insadong and Bukchon
The palace district around Gyeongbokgung. Hanok guesthouses in Bukchon are on steep lanes; the driver stops at the nearest street the car can use and helps with the bags.
Hongdae and Mapo
The closest hotel district to the airport, about 50 km away, with university-quarter nightlife, cafés and plenty of mid-size hotels.
Itaewon, Yongsan and Jamsil
International hotels below Namsan in Itaewon and Hannam, and Lotte World Tower in Jamsil, the furthest common drop-off at around 70 km.

When to book your Seoul transfer
Seoul is busy all year, but spring and autumn are the favourite seasons. Cherry blossom usually arrives in early April, when Yeouido and the Han riverside parks draw big crowds, and the autumn leaves peak from late October into November. This year's Seoul Autumn Festa runs until 29 November 2026.
The two big national holidays, Seollal (Lunar New Year, in late January or February) and Chuseok (in September or October), empty the city and then fill the roads as everyone returns. Flights and expressways are at their busiest on the days either side, so book early.
Summer is hot and humid, with the monsoon season usually from late June through July, and heavy downpours can slow traffic. Winters are cold and dry, with clear roads on most days.
Incheon runs around the clock, so late-night landings are common. Those usually get the quickest drive; landings between about 5pm and 8pm on weekdays meet Seoul's evening rush.
Private transfer vs other ways to reach Seoul
| Option | Door to door | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 1h 5min – 1h 40min | Straight to your door, fixed price per vehicle, driver waiting in arrivals. |
| AREX train | 45–66 minutes + onward trip | Express trains run non-stop to Seoul Station; all-stop trains take 66 minutes from Terminal 2 and call at Gimpo Airport and Hongik University. From there you continue by subway or taxi. |
| Airport limousine bus | 1¼–1¾ hours | Buses from the arrivals floor serve Gangnam, Myeongdong, Jamsil and other districts, and the driver loads your cases into the hold. Comfortable, but they stop at several hotels and move with traffic. |
| Taxi from the rank | 1–1½ hours | Regular, deluxe and larger jumbo taxis queue outside arrivals. You wait at the rank, may need to show your address in Korean, and a group with luggage may need a jumbo or two cars. |
| Rental car | 1–1½ hours plus parking | Possible with an International Driving Permit, but Seoul’s fast lane changes, bus-only lanes and limited hotel parking make it a hard first drive after a long flight. |

Vehicles, prices and what's included
You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Couples and solo travellers |
| Executive sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Mercedes E-Class or similar |
| Minivan | Up to 7 passengers | 6–7 suitcases | Families and golf or ski bags |
| Minibus | 8–16 passengers | One suitcase each | Groups, weddings, events |
Exact models vary by local partner. Tell us about oversized luggage, golf bags, skis or strollers and we will size the vehicle to fit.
Not included: waiting beyond the free time, and stops or detours added on the day. Planned stops are fine: ask for them with your quote and they are priced in. Tipping is up to you.
Who the Seoul transfer suits
Families
Child seats fitted before you land and no subway changes or long station corridors with suitcases. A minivan takes up to seven people and their luggage to the hotel door.
Groups of friends
One price for the vehicle, split however you like, and room for the shopping on the way back to the airport. A minibus takes up to 16.
Late arrivals
Incheon is open around the clock, but the trains and most buses stop late in the evening. Your driver waits however late you land, and the roads are clear.
Business travellers
Straight to meetings in Gangnam, Yeouido or the City Hall area, or to COEX for a trade show, in a quiet car with a driver who knows the riverside roads.
Plan the rest of your Seoul stay
- Have your hotel’s address in Korean, or a map pin, ready to send us. It speeds up the last few streets and helps with taxis later in your stay.
- Pick up a T-money card at an airport convenience store. It works on the subway, city buses and in many taxis and shops across Seoul.
- Download Naver Map or KakaoMap before you land. Google Maps gives only limited walking and driving directions in Korea, so most visitors switch.
- Palaces such as Gyeongbokgung are closed one day a week, and the days differ. Check before you plan your first morning around a visit.
- For your flight home, leave central Seoul about 3 to 3½ hours before an international departure, and allow longer on Friday evenings and before national holidays.
- Travelling on to Japan? We also drive Kansai Airport to Kyoto and Narita into Tokyo; see our South Korea transfers for more of the country.
