Faro to Quinta do Lago by private car
A Faro to Quinta do Lago transfer is one of the shortest airport runs in the Algarve: about 19 km and 20 to 25 minutes from the arrivals hall at Faro Airport to your villa, hotel or clubhouse. Quinta do Lago and its neighbour Vale do Lobo sit side by side on the edge of the Ria Formosa lagoon, and with Vilamoura they make up what is often called the Algarve's Golden Triangle.
Short does not mean simple. There is no direct bus, the nearest railway station is in Almancil, and the estates are large: Quinta do Lago alone covers around 2,000 acres, with villas spread along pine-lined roads and directions given by numbered roundabouts.
A taxi from the rank is a fair choice for two people with light bags. A pre-booked car makes more sense with golf bags, child seats, a late landing or a group, because the price covers the whole vehicle and your driver already has the villa location. Staying further west? See Faro Airport to Vilamoura.

The drive from FAO to Quinta do Lago & Vale do Lobo
From the terminal, your driver takes the airport access road, the EN125-10, past the village of Montenegro to the EN125, the old main road that runs the length of the Algarve coast from Vila do Bispo to Vila Real de Santo António. Heading west, it passes São João da Venda and the small church of São Lourenço before reaching Almancil.
In Almancil the car turns south down Avenida André Jordan, named after the developer who founded Quinta do Lago in 1971, and shops and petrol stations give way to umbrella pines. Roundabout 1, by the Quinta Shopping centre, is the entrance to the estate. For Vale do Lobo, the driver leaves Almancil on the EM527 towards the coast and arrives at the resort's main entrance, a Moorish-style gateway built in 1987.
There are no motorway tolls on either route. If any part of your trip does use a toll road, for example an onward journey towards Lisbon, the toll is included in your price.
In normal traffic the drive takes 20 to 25 minutes. The EN125 carries a lot of local traffic, with roundabouts and junctions all the way through São João da Venda and Almancil, so on summer afternoons and at weekday rush hours around Faro, allow up to 35 minutes. Late in the evening the run can be quicker.
Inside the estates the pace slows to residential speed. Quinta do Lago is patrolled by its own security team, and some villa developments have their own gates and intercoms, so send the villa name, nearest roundabout and any gate code when you book.

Meeting your driver at Faro Airport
Faro Airport has a single passenger terminal. Flights from the UK, Ireland and other countries outside the Schengen area go through passport control, where the EU's Entry/Exit System can add time. After baggage reclaim, walk out into the public arrivals hall on the ground floor, where your driver waits holding a sign with your name. Private cars can only stop briefly at the kerb, so your driver then walks you to where the car is parked.

After baggage reclaim, walk out into the public arrivals hall on the ground floor, where your driver waits with a sign showing your name and walks you to the car.
We track your flight, so the pickup moves with any delay at no extra cost, and your 60 minutes of free waiting start when you actually land. Your driver's name and mobile number reach you before the trip.
For the return, your driver collects you from your villa or hotel door and waits up to 15 minutes from the agreed time.

Where we drop off in Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo
Every address is door to door, but these estates are large and many villas have names rather than street numbers. Quinta do Lago is organised around numbered roundabouts, from Roundabout 1 at the entrance to Roundabout 6 by the beach bridge, and Vale do Lobo has one main entrance and reception. Send us the villa name, the nearest roundabout or a map pin, plus any gate code, and your driver goes straight there.
Quinta do Lago villas
Private villas along the estate roads between the lake, the golf courses and the Ria Formosa. Some developments have their own gate or intercom, so pass on the code.
Quinta do Lago lake and beach
Casa do Lago and The Shack sit by the lake. Roundabout 6 is the start of the wooden footbridge over the lagoon to the public beach.
The golf clubhouses
The North, South and Laranjal courses at Quinta do Lago, and the Royal and Ocean courses at Vale do Lobo. Landing with a tee time? We can drop you at the clubhouse first.
Vale do Lobo
A 450-hectare resort with about 1,500 homes and two kilometres of beach. Drop-off at your villa, apartment or the main reception, through the main entrance.
Almancil
The working town just north of both estates, with supermarkets, restaurants and cafés. A sensible place to stop for groceries on the way in.

When to book your Quinta do Lago & Vale do Lobo transfer
Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo are busy all year. Golfers come in every month, and the mild winters suit golf groups escaping colder weather at home. The estates fill with families at Easter, in July and August, and over the October half-term.
From July to the end of August the EN125 through São João da Venda and Almancil is at its slowest, especially in the late afternoon and early evening. A morning landing, or one after about 8pm, usually has the clearest roads.
Each July the Moto Clube de Faro holds its international motorcycle rally at Vale das Almas, right beside the airport, over four days (16 to 19 July in 2026). If you land that week, allow a little extra time around the airport roads.
Quinta do Lago describes July as the Algarve's hottest month. If you are travelling with young children or older relatives in high summer, a car with air conditioning waiting at arrivals makes the first half hour much easier.
Private transfer vs other ways to reach Quinta do Lago & Vale do Lobo
| Option | Door to door | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 20–35 min | Straight to your door, fixed price per vehicle, driver waiting in arrivals. |
| Taxi from the rank | 20–35 minutes | Taxis wait outside the arrivals hall, and the trip is short. Fine for two people with light luggage. You queue at the rank, and a group with golf bags may need two cars. |
| Bus + train + taxi | 1½–2 hours | Próximo city bus 16 to Faro railway station, a regional train to Almancil, then a taxi for the last 6–7 km. Two changes with luggage, as no bus runs direct to Quinta do Lago. |
| Rental car | 20–35 minutes plus pick-up | Quinta do Lago itself suggests a car for getting around during a holiday. You can take a transfer on arrival and arrange a hire car later through Clube da Quinta, so nobody drives straight off a flight. |

Vehicles, prices and what's included
You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Couples and solo travellers |
| Executive sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Mercedes E-Class or similar |
| Minivan | Up to 7 passengers | 6–7 suitcases | Families and golf or ski bags |
| Minibus | 8–16 passengers | One suitcase each | Groups, weddings, events |
Exact models vary by local partner. Tell us about oversized luggage, golf bags, skis or strollers and we will size the vehicle to fit.
Not included: waiting beyond the free time, and stops or detours added on the day. Planned stops are fine: ask for them with your quote and they are priced in. Tipping is up to you.
Who the Quinta do Lago & Vale do Lobo transfer suits
Golf groups
Four players with bags and trolleys need a minivan, not a taxi boot. Tell us the course and tee time, and we can drop you at the clubhouse before the villa.
Families in a villa
Child seats fitted before pickup and one price for the car. Ask for a supermarket stop in Almancil when you book, and arrive with breakfast for the next morning.
Late arrivals
Evening flights land when buses are few and the estate roads are dark. Your driver tracks the flight and has the villa location before you land.
Celebrations and big groups
Weddings, milestone birthdays and family reunions in large villas. Minibuses take up to 16 guests, and we can arrange separate cars for guests on different flights.
Plan the rest of your Quinta do Lago stay
- Get the gate code, key collection details and an exact map pin from your villa before you fly. Clube da Quinta, at Roundabout 2, is the estate’s information point for guests.
- Book tee times before you travel. Quinta do Lago takes golf bookings through its official booking service and app, and spring and autumn dates go first.
- The nearest supermarket is the Pingo Doce in Quinta Shopping at Roundabout 1. Almancil has larger supermarkets, some of them stocking British products.
- Market days are worth planning around: Loulé holds its Saturday market from 08:00 to 14:00, and Almancil’s local market runs on the first and fourth Sunday of the month.
- Moving along the coast later? We quote villa-to-villa transfers to Albufeira and the western Algarve, and transfers elsewhere in Portugal too.
- For the flight home, leave Quinta do Lago about two and a half hours before a European departure. With a non-EU passport, allow extra time for the Entry/Exit checks at passport control.
