Lisbon Airport to Cascais by private car
A private transfer from Lisbon Airport to Cascais covers the 35 km from Terminal 1 to the old fishing town at the western end of the Estoril coast, and takes about 35 minutes in normal traffic. Your driver meets you in arrivals at Lisbon Airport, loads the bags once and takes the A5 motorway west to your hotel door.
The public alternative is the metro across the city with a change at Alameda, then the Cascais train from Cais do Sodré. It is inexpensive and the last stretch runs beside the sea, but it takes 75 to 90 minutes, with stairs, escalators and busy platforms along the way. For a solo traveller with a backpack in daylight, the train is a fair choice.
For a family, a group with golf bags or anyone landing late, the car is simpler, and the price is per vehicle, not per person. We cover the whole coast on the same quote: Cascais, Estoril, Monte Estoril, Quinta da Marinha and Guincho. Heading south to the Alentejo beaches later? See our Lisbon to Comporta transfer.

The drive from LIS to Cascais
From Terminal 1 your driver joins the 2ª Circular, Lisbon's inner ring road, then the CRIL along the western edge of Monsanto Forest Park to meet the A5, the Autoestrada da Costa do Estoril. The A5 runs for about 25 km, inland of Oeiras, Carcavelos and Estoril, and ends on the edge of Cascais, a few minutes from the bay. That is the line on the diagram: 35 km, about 35 minutes. Heading to Cascais you pass the A5 toll barrier at Carcavelos; the toll is included in your price.
The alternative is the Marginal (N6), the old coast road from Algés through Oeiras, Paço de Arcos, Carcavelos, Parede and Estoril, with the Tagus estuary and then the open Atlantic beside you. It is slower, with traffic lights and roundabouts, and adds 15 to 30 minutes. Your driver can take it on request, or when the motorway is jammed.
The 2ª Circular and the A5 are busiest on weekday mornings heading into Lisbon and in the early evening heading out, and on sunny summer weekends when the city drives to the beaches. At those times, allow up to an hour. Late at night the run takes little more than half an hour.
Cascais itself is compact and easy to drive. The car reaches the hotels around the bay and the Citadel, and the roads out to Quinta da Marinha and Guincho. The lanes of the old town behind the bay are largely pedestrian, so for guesthouses there your driver stops at the nearest street, a short walk from the door.

Meeting your driver at Lisbon Airport
All arriving flights use Terminal 1; Terminal 2 is a separate, departures-only building used by several low-cost airlines. After baggage reclaim and customs, walk into the Terminal 1 arrivals hall, where your driver waits holding a sign with your name. The car is a short walk away in the terminal car park. If you can't see your driver, stay inside the hall and call or message the number we sent you.
Every flight into Lisbon arrives at Terminal 1, including airlines that depart from Terminal 2. Add your flight number when you book and we track it: if the flight is late, the pickup moves with it at no extra cost, and your 60 minutes of free waiting start when you actually land. That covers passport control, which can be slow for flights from outside the Schengen area. Your driver’s name and phone number reach you before the trip, so you can message from the baggage hall.
For the trip back, your driver collects you from your Cascais hotel and waits up to 15 minutes from the agreed time. Tell us your airline: Terminal 2 handles departures for several low-cost carriers, and the drop-off needs to be at the right building.

Where we drop off in Cascais and Estoril
Most hotels in Cascais and Estoril have a door or forecourt the car can reach. The exceptions are the pedestrian lanes of the old town and some villas behind private gates. Give us the hotel name, or the villa address with a map pin and any gate code, and your driver plans the closest legal stop before you land.
Cascais bay and old town
Hotels around the bay, the marina and the Citadel get door-to-door service. For guesthouses in the pedestrian lanes, the car stops at the nearest street, a few minutes’ walk away.
Estoril and Monte Estoril
The hotels around the Casino Estoril gardens, Tamariz beach and the hill of Monte Estoril, two to three kilometres east of Cascais on the same stretch of coast.
Quinta da Marinha
Golf courses, resort hotels and villas in the pine woods west of Cascais. Share a map pin for private villas, as many sit behind gated entrances.
Guincho
The wild Atlantic beach inside the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, a few kilometres beyond Cascais, with hotels and seafood restaurants along the coast road.
Carcavelos and Parede
Beach towns on the Marginal, roughly halfway between Lisbon and Cascais. Carcavelos has a wide sandy beach that is popular with surfers.

When to book your Cascais transfer
Cascais is a year-round town, mild in winter and busiest from June to September, when Lisbon heads for the beaches of the Estoril coast. Summer weekends are the slowest time on both the Marginal and the A5, westbound in the morning and eastbound in the evening. A weekday arrival in the middle of the day is usually the quickest.
The NOS Alive festival fills the riverside at Algés, where the Marginal leaves Lisbon, from 8 to 10 July 2027. Expect heavy traffic around Algés in the late afternoon and after midnight on those days; your driver will keep to the A5.
The Cascais train line is being modernised during 2026. Late-evening trains between Caxias and Cascais are replaced by buses, and some weekend services are altered, which makes a car the simpler choice after an evening landing.
From October to April the coast is quieter, and outside rush hour the drive is rarely slow.
Private transfer vs other ways to reach Cascais
| Option | Door to door | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 35 min – 1h | Straight to your door, fixed price per vehicle, driver waiting in arrivals. |
| Metro + Cascais train | 1 hour 15 minutes – 1½ hours | Red line from the arrivals hall, change at Alameda for the green line to Cais do Sodré, then the Cascais train, 33 to 40 minutes. Two changes, with stairs and busy platforms for your luggage. |
| Taxi or ride-hailing app | 35–60 minutes | Taxis queue outside Terminal 1 arrivals; app cars collect from a dedicated area in the P2 car park. Metered or app-priced, so the fare moves with traffic, and boot space varies. |
| Rental car | 35–60 minutes plus parking | Handy for exploring Sintra and the coast, but you queue for the car after your flight, pay the A5 toll yourself and look for paid parking in Cascais, which is tight in summer. |

Vehicles, prices and what's included
You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Couples and solo travellers |
| Executive sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Mercedes E-Class or similar |
| Minivan | Up to 7 passengers | 6–7 suitcases | Families and golf or ski bags |
| Minibus | 8–16 passengers | One suitcase each | Groups, weddings, events |
Exact models vary by local partner. Tell us about oversized luggage, golf bags, skis or strollers and we will size the vehicle to fit.
Not included: waiting beyond the free time, and stops or detours added on the day. Planned stops are fine: ask for them with your quote and they are priced in. Tipping is up to you.
Who the Cascais transfer suits
Golfers
Quinta da Marinha, Oitavos Dunes and Penha Longa are all a short drive from Cascais. A minivan takes four players with their golf bags; tell us how many bags you are bringing.
Families
Child and booster seats fitted before pickup, and one price for the car. A minivan takes up to seven people with luggage, with no pushchair to carry through Cais do Sodré station.
Late arrivals
During the 2026 line works, late-evening Cascais trains are replaced by buses beyond Caxias. A pre-booked car tracks your flight and drives straight to your door, whatever time you land.
Weddings and groups
Weddings, incentive trips and company events at the coast hotels: a minibus takes up to 16 guests, and we can stagger pickups for people arriving on different flights.
Plan the rest of your Cascais stay
- Sintra is about 20 minutes’ drive north of Cascais through the natural park. Book timed tickets for Pena Palace before you go, as summer slots fill up early.
- Boca do Inferno, the sea cliffs and blowhole just west of the town, is an easy walk along the coast from the marina, and most dramatic when there is a swell.
- Once you are settled, the train makes Lisbon an easy day out without the car: 33 to 40 minutes from Cascais to Cais do Sodré, then a short walk to the Baixa.
- Book a table for your first evening in summer. Seafood restaurants on the Guincho road and around the bay fill up at sunset, and Portuguese diners eat later than many visitors expect.
- Spending a few nights in town before or after the coast? We quote hotel-to-hotel rides, and the airport to central Lisbon transfer works in reverse from your city hotel too.
- Touring more of Portugal? Porto is about three and a half hours north by road, and we also run transfers from Porto Airport into the city.
- For your flight home, leave Cascais about 2½ hours before a European departure and 3 hours before a long-haul one, adding time on weekday mornings when traffic into Lisbon is heaviest.
