Miami Airport to Port of Miami: your cruise transfer

PortMiami sits on its own island in Biscayne Bay, and the drive from Miami Airport to Port of Miami is short: about 14 km (9 miles), or 20 minutes when the roads are clear. Your driver meets you at Miami International Airport, loads the cases and drops you at the kerb of your own cruise terminal, where you hand checked bags to the porters for the ship.

Most cruise lines sell their own airport buses on sailing day, and they work well if your flight fits their window. They leave on the line's schedule, though, often hourly, and stop running once the expected flights have been met.

A private car leaves when your bags arrive, takes your whole group and its luggage in one vehicle at one price, and can call at a hotel first if you fly in the day before. Spending a few nights on the beach before or after sailing? See our Miami Airport to Miami Beach transfer.

The drive from MIA to PortMiami cruise terminals

The route is almost all expressway. From the airport, your driver takes the Dolphin Expressway (SR 836) east, a cashless toll road whose toll is included in your price, to I-395 at the edge of Downtown Miami.

Just past the Arsht Center, I-395 becomes the MacArthur Causeway, and at Watson Island your driver turns into the PortMiami Tunnel. It runs under the shipping channel straight onto the port island, a toll-free route built for port traffic, so you avoid the downtown streets altogether. That is the line on the diagram: about 14 km to the Carnival terminals in the middle of the island.

On the island, the terminals line Cruise Boulevard. MSC's Terminal AA and Royal Caribbean's Terminal A are towards the eastern end, Norwegian's Terminal B and Terminal C come next, Carnival's D, E and F are in the middle, and Virgin Voyages' Terminal V is towards the west. Drop-off lanes are signed by terminal letter, and your driver goes straight to the kerb for your ship, where porters are waiting for the luggage.

Timing depends on the day. On a quiet weekday the whole trip takes 20 minutes. On weekend mornings in the winter season, when several large ships turn around at once, cars, taxis and coaches converge on the terminals and the last stretch can queue; allow 30 to 40 minutes then. Your driver checks the port traffic before you land.

Meeting your driver at Miami Airport

MIA is one long horseshoe-shaped terminal with concourses D to J. Baggage claim and all ground transport are on Level 1. International passengers clear customs in Concourse D, E or J; from J you come out on Level 3 and take the lift down. Your driver meets you on Level 1 by your baggage claim with a name sign, and we send the exact spot and your driver's number before you land.

At Miami International, all ground transport leaves from Level 1, the baggage claim level. After an international flight you clear US customs in Concourse D, E or J first; from J you come out on Level 3 and take the lift down. Your driver meets you on Level 1 by your baggage claim with a name sign, and we send the exact spot and the driver's phone number before you land. We track your flight and give you 60 minutes of free waiting from landing.

For the trip home, give us your ship and your flight time. Ships usually dock early and guests leave in groups; we set the pickup at your terminal for your disembarkation time, and your driver waits up to 15 minutes from it. If you are held up on board, message us on WhatsApp.

Where we drop off at PortMiami

Every cruise terminal has its own drop-off kerb, and the terminal letter on your boarding documents decides where your driver stops. Lines occasionally move a ship to a different terminal, so check your cruise line’s app the day before, and tell us the ship and sailing time when you book.

Terminals A and AA

Royal Caribbean’s Terminal A, the Crown of Miami, and MSC’s Terminal AA, opened in 2025 and the largest cruise terminal in the world, able to handle three ships at once.

Terminals B and C

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Terminal B, known as the Pearl of Miami, and Terminal C, which serves ships from several different cruise lines.

Terminals D, E and F

Carnival Cruise Line’s terminals in the middle of the island. D and E were expanded in 2018 for larger ships, and F was renovated in 2022.

Terminals J and V

Terminal J is a small terminal for luxury and smaller ships. Terminal V, opened in 2022 on West Cruise Boulevard, is the home of Virgin Voyages.

Terminal G

Royal Caribbean’s next terminal, under construction at the west end of the port and expected to open in 2027. Your documents will say if your ship uses it.

When to book your PortMiami cruise terminals transfer

PortMiami handles cruises all year, but the busiest months are November to April, the Caribbean high season, when several large ships often turn around on the same weekend morning. Saturdays and Sundays are usually the heaviest days at the port and on the Dolphin Expressway, so build in extra time on those mornings.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November. A storm can change an itinerary, delay a ship's return or disrupt flights into MIA. We track your flight, so the pickup moves with any delay; if your ship's return day or time changes, message us on WhatsApp and we will help rearrange your pickup.

Hotels fill up around Art Basel Miami Beach, 4 to 6 December 2026, and over Christmas and New Year, which are also popular sailing weeks. If you plan a night in Miami before the cruise, book the room early and add the hotel to your quote; the hotel to terminal leg from Brickell or downtown is only about 10 minutes.

You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.

Who the PortMiami cruise terminals transfer suits

Families on a first cruise

One vehicle for everyone and every case, child seats fitted, and a drop-off at your own terminal rather than a shared coach calling at several.

Groups and family reunions

A minibus for up to 16 people, so the whole party reaches the terminal together with room for everyone’s luggage, even when flights land at different times.

Same-day flyers

When your flight lands on sailing morning and the window is tight, a car that leaves as soon as the bags arrive, with no wait for a coach to fill, saves real time.

Pre- and post-cruise hotel stays

Fly in the day before and stay in Brickell or on Miami Beach. We quote the hotel to terminal leg, and after the cruise the port to hotel or airport.

Plan your Miami cruise days

  • Check your terminal letter in the cruise line’s app the day before sailing. Ships occasionally change terminals, and the letter decides which kerb your driver uses.
  • Keep passports, boarding documents, medication and swimwear in your hand luggage. Checked bags can take until the evening to reach your cabin.
  • Fly in the day before if you can. A delayed flight on sailing day leaves little time to spare, and a ship cannot wait for late passengers.
  • On the way home, do not book a flight too early. Carnival asks guests using its airport transfer to fly no earlier than 13:00 on the day they leave the ship, a sensible rule for any line.
  • Staying on after the cruise? South Beach is about 12 km from the port across the MacArthur Causeway, 15 to 25 minutes by car.
  • Sailing from Europe on a future trip? We also run transfers to Barcelona’s cruise terminals and to the Civitavecchia cruise port for Rome.

Miami Airport to PortMiami cruise terminals: your questions

How long does it take from Miami Airport to the Port of Miami?

About 20 minutes for the 14 km (9 miles) in normal traffic, via the Dolphin Expressway, I-395 and the PortMiami Tunnel. On weekend sailing mornings in the winter season, when several ships turn around together, allow 30 to 40 minutes. If your flight lands close to your latest check-in time, tell us when you book so we can plan the pickup.

How much is a private transfer from Miami Airport to PortMiami?

One fixed price for the whole vehicle, not per person, set by the vehicle size, the date and time, and any stops such as a hotel. Expressway tolls, flight tracking and waiting time are included, as on all our US airport transfers. Enter your trip above and we email your price within 24 hours, with nothing to pay until you accept.

Is the cruise line bus better than a private car?

It depends on your flight. Cruise line buses run on sailing day only, within a set window; Carnival’s from MIA, for example, runs from 10:00 to 12:30 and needs flights landing by noon. If your flight fits and you are one or two people, the bus is simple. For a family or group, a tight connection or a hotel stop, a private car leaves when you are ready.

Which terminal does my ship use at PortMiami?

Your boarding documents and the cruise line’s app show it. As a guide, Royal Caribbean uses Terminal A, MSC Terminal AA, Norwegian Terminal B, Carnival Terminals D, E and F, and Virgin Voyages Terminal V. Terminal C serves several lines, and Terminal J smaller luxury ships. Ships occasionally move, so check the day before and tell us the ship’s name.

What time should my flight land on sailing day?

As early as you can. Your cruise line sets a latest check-in time, printed in your documents, and you want to reach the terminal well before it. Carnival, for example, asks guests using its own airport bus to land at MIA by noon. Allow time for baggage claim and customs, then 20 to 40 minutes for the drive.

What if my flight to Miami is delayed on sailing day?

Add your flight number when you book and we track it, so the pickup moves with any delay at no extra cost, and your 60 minutes of free waiting start when you land. If the delay runs past three hours, or the flight diverts to Fort Lauderdale, message us on WhatsApp straight away: under our policy that can need a new booking, and we will help arrange one.

Can you collect us from the ship after the cruise?

Yes. Give us the ship, the terminal and your flight time, and we set the pickup for your disembarkation time at the terminal kerb. Your driver waits up to 15 minutes from the agreed time. We can take you to MIA, Fort Lauderdale airport, a Miami Beach hotel or anywhere else in Florida on request.
