Denver to Breckenridge by private car
A private transfer from Denver to Breckenridge covers the 167 km (104 miles) from Denver International Airport to your hotel or condo door in about two hours, longer when the I-70 mountain corridor is busy or snowy. Your driver meets you in baggage claim, loads skis and boot bags once, and drives up through the Eisenhower Tunnel into Summit County.
Breckenridge sits at about 9,600 feet (2,900 m), and once you arrive you rarely need a car: the town's Free Ride buses cost nothing, and the BreckConnect Gondola links town with Peak 7 and Peak 8. That makes the airport run the one journey worth planning carefully.
Shared mountain shuttles leave from Level 5 at DEN and cost less per seat for a solo traveller, but they run to a timetable and stop at other lodges. A private car leaves when your bags are off the belt, and the price is for the whole vehicle, so a family or a group of friends with gear shares it. Skiing Vail later in the week? We quote that leg too.

The drive from DEN to Breckenridge
From the terminal, your driver takes Peña Boulevard and joins I-70 west through north Denver, or uses the E-470 toll road and C-470 round the city when the interstate is jammed. Any tolls are included in your price. Past Golden the road climbs into the foothills, then drops down Floyd Hill, where CDOT is realigning the descent into Clear Creek canyon with work due to finish in 2029, before climbing again through Idaho Springs, Georgetown and Silver Plume.
The high point is the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel, about 2.7 km long, which carries I-70 under the Continental Divide. Its west portal sits at 11,158 feet (3,401 m), the highest point on the whole US Interstate system. Beyond it the road drops into Summit County past Silverthorne to Frisco, where exit 203 leads onto CO 9 south. The last 15 km follow the Blue River valley into Breckenridge and the north end of Main Street.
Colorado's winter traction season starts on 1 September. When CDOT activates the Traction Law, every vehicle on the corridor needs four-wheel or all-wheel drive with suitable tyres of at least 3/16-inch tread, or chains or an approved traction device. In severe storms the chain law follows, and beyond that the road closes until crews reopen it. Your driver checks conditions before leaving and works within those rules.
Weekend ski traffic matters as much as snow. The Breckenridge tourism office says it is worst westbound on Friday afternoons and eastbound on Sundays, when two hours can become three or more. Landing midweek, or before midday on a Friday, keeps the drive closer to two hours. Late-evening arrivals meet a quieter interstate, though the mountain section is slower in the dark when it snows.

Meeting your driver at Denver Airport
All flights at DEN arrive at Concourse A, B or C, which connect to the main Jeppesen Terminal by an underground train. Take the train to the terminal, then collect your bags in baggage claim on Level 5. Your driver waits there with a sign showing your name and walks you to the vehicle.
All flights at DEN arrive at Concourse A, B or C, linked to the Jeppesen Terminal by an underground train. Baggage claim is on Level 5, and that is where your driver waits with a sign showing your name. Pre-arranged cars load at the limousine booth outside Level 5, Island 2, on the east or west side of the terminal, a short walk from the carousels.
Add your flight number when you book and we track it: the pickup moves with delays at no extra cost, and your 60 minutes of free waiting start when you actually land. For the trip home, your driver collects you from your lodge and waits up to 15 minutes from the agreed time. In winter we suggest a pickup time that allows for eastbound traffic and storms.

Where we drop off in Breckenridge
Breckenridge spreads along the Blue River and up the lower slopes of the Tenmile Range, with lodging in the old town, at the base of each peak and on the wooded roads between. Every address is door to door. Tell us the building and unit, and for large condo complexes the check-in office, so your driver stops at the right entrance first time.
Main Street and the historic town
Hotels, inns and condos on and around Main Street, where the Welcome Center sits at 203 South Main. The free Main Street Trolley runs through downtown.
Peak 8 and Ski Hill Road
Slopeside lodges at the Peak 8 base, reached from town by Ski Hill Road. The BreckConnect Gondola ends here after stops at Shock Hill and Peak 7.
Peak 9, Beaver Run and the Village
The southern base area, where the Quicksilver Super6 and Beaver Run SuperChair start. Several large condo complexes sit here, a short walk from Main Street.
Shock Hill and the residential roads
Private homes and townhouses on the hillsides around town. Share the exact address and any gate code, and allow a few extra minutes on side roads after heavy snow.
Keystone, Copper Mountain and Frisco
Staying elsewhere in Summit County? The same quote covers Keystone, Copper Mountain, Frisco and Silverthorne, all off the same stretch of I-70.

When to book your Breckenridge transfer
Breckenridge Ski Resort is scheduled to open for the 2026/27 season on 6 November 2026, conditions permitting, and the resort aims to ski into May when snow allows. The town is at its busiest from Christmas to New Year and over the US holiday weekends in January and February.
Events fill Main Street through the winter. The Lighting of Breckenridge and the Race of the Santas take place on the first weekend of December, New Year's Eve brings fireworks from the base of Peak 9 and a torchlight parade, and the International Snow Sculpture Championships turn 25-ton blocks of snow into art every January. Ullr Fest, the town's party for the Norse god of snow, is another lively winter weekend.
On I-70 the timing of your flight matters more than the month. Friday afternoons westbound and Sunday afternoons eastbound are the slowest, and a storm can close the tunnel approaches for a while. We track your flight and plan the pickup around it. In summer the town turns to hiking and biking, and the drive over the Divide is usually quicker.
Private transfer vs other ways to reach Breckenridge
| Option | Door to door | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 2h 5min – 3h | Straight to your door, fixed price per vehicle, driver waiting in arrivals. |
| Shared mountain shuttle | 3–4 hours | Several companies run shared vans from Level 5, Island 4 at DEN to Summit County lodges. Good value for one person, but you wait for the departure and stop at other passengers’ addresses. |
| A Line train + Bustang + Summit Stage | 3½–4½ hours | Train to Denver Union Station (37 minutes), the Bustang West Line coach to Frisco (about 1 hour 45 minutes), then the free Summit Stage bus to Breckenridge. Two changes with skis and suitcases. |
| Rental car | 2–3 hours plus parking | You drive the mountain corridor yourself after a flight and need traction-law tyres in winter. Most downtown parking in Breckenridge is paid, and many visitors leave the car parked all week. |

Vehicles, prices and what's included
You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Couples and solo travellers |
| Executive sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Mercedes E-Class or similar |
| Minivan | Up to 7 passengers | 6–7 suitcases | Families and golf or ski bags |
| Minibus | 8–16 passengers | One suitcase each | Groups, weddings, events |
Exact models vary by local partner. Tell us about oversized luggage, golf bags, skis or strollers and we will size the vehicle to fit.
Not included: waiting beyond the free time, and stops or detours added on the day. Planned stops are fine: ask for them with your quote and they are priced in. Tipping is up to you.
Who the Breckenridge transfer suits
Ski families
Ski bags, boot bags and child seats in one vehicle, with one fixed price for the car. A minivan seats up to seven with luggage; tell us how many skis and snowboards you bring.
Groups of friends
A minibus takes 8 to 16 people with gear, so the whole group arrives together and splits one price, rather than waiting for several shuttle departures.
Late arrivals
Evening and night flights are covered 24/7, and the pickup moves if you land late. Useful when shared shuttle departures have finished for the day.
Travellers new to mountain driving
No need to learn chain rules or drive the tunnel approaches in a snowstorm after a long flight. Your driver handles the traction law and the weekend traffic.
Plan the rest of your Breckenridge stay
- Breckenridge sits at about 9,600 feet. Drink plenty of water on the way up and take the first evening easy; the town’s own visitor advice puts hydration first.
- Staying in a condo? Ask for a grocery stop in Frisco or Breckenridge when you book, and we include the time in your quote.
- You can plan the week without a car. Breck Free Ride buses and the Main Street Trolley are free, and the free Summit Stage links Frisco, Keystone and Copper Mountain.
- Book ski school, rentals and activities such as dog sledding before you travel. The tourism office warns that popular activities sell out in peak weeks.
- For your flight home, leave Breckenridge about four and a half hours before a domestic departure from DEN, and five hours or more on a Sunday or in snow.
- Two resorts in one trip? We also drive Salt Lake City to Park City and Jackson Hole to Teton Village, and our US airport transfers cover more mountain towns.
