Lima airport to Miraflores, the simple way

Jorge Chávez is Peru's main international airport, in Callao on the north-west edge of the city, and since June 2025 every flight has used its new passenger terminal. Getting from Lima airport to Miraflores means crossing a big, busy capital: 21 km that take about 40 minutes on clear roads and up to an hour and a half at rush hour.

Your driver meets you at Lima Airport, and you know their name and phone number before you land. That matters here: the UK Foreign Office warns that fake taxi drivers approach arriving passengers at Jorge Chávez. The price is fixed for the whole car, so families and groups share it.

Miraflores, on the cliffs above the Pacific, is where most visitors to Lima stay, with Barranco and San Isidro on either side. If Lima is your gateway to the Andes, our Cusco to Sacred Valley transfer covers the next leg, and our guide to airport transfers in Peru has the rest.

The drive from LIM to Miraflores

The new terminal sits on the west side of the airfield, and its access road runs south to cross the Rímac river onto Avenida Morales Duárez. From there the usual route heads south through Callao on Avenida Santa Rosa and reaches the sea at La Perla.

This is where the Costa Verde begins: a fast road along the foot of the cliffs, with the Pacific on one side and the clifftop districts of San Miguel, Magdalena and San Isidro above you on the other. At the Miraflores end the driver climbs up into the town and drops you at your door. That is the line on the diagram below, about 21 km.

Work on a permanent bridge and road along Avenida Santa Rosa, to link the new terminal more directly with the Costa Verde, was still under way at our last check, so the approach to the airport can be slow at busy times. Lima traffic is heavy on weekday mornings and evenings, when 40 minutes can become 90. Early mornings, late evenings and Sundays are quickest. If the Costa Verde is closed or jammed, the driver goes inland through the city instead.

The UK Foreign Office advises keeping car doors locked and windows shut in Lima traffic, because criminals target cars stopped at lights, and your driver does the same. It also advises keeping your phone out of sight near the roadside.

Meeting your driver at Lima Airport

Since June 2025 all flights use the new passenger terminal on the west side of the airfield. International and domestic arrivals come out into separate halls, each with official taxi counters. After immigration, baggage reclaim and customs, your driver waits for you in the arrivals hall with a sign showing your name. Walk past anyone else who offers a taxi or a tour. If you can't see your driver, stay inside and call or message the number we sent you.

At the new terminal, international and domestic flights arrive into separate halls. People posing as drivers or tour operators sometimes approach arriving passengers, so walk past anyone offering a ride. Your driver's name and mobile number reach you before you fly, and they wait with a sign showing your name.

Add your flight number when you book and we track it. If the flight is late, the pickup moves with it at no extra cost, and your 60 minutes of free waiting start when you actually land. If a delay runs past three hours, message us on WhatsApp: a delay that long can need a new booking, and we will help you rearrange it.

For the trip back to the airport, your driver collects you from your hotel and waits up to 15 minutes from the agreed time.

Where we drop off in Miraflores and nearby

Every hotel and apartment in Miraflores, Barranco and San Isidro is door to door. Miraflores is compact and busy, with one-way streets around Parque Kennedy and Avenida Larco, so the driver plans the last few blocks. For apartments, give us the building name and number as well as the street.

Parque Kennedy and Avenida Larco

The heart of Miraflores, with hotels, restaurants and shops around the park and along Avenida Larco, which runs down towards the sea.

The Malecón and Larcomar

Hotels and apartments along the clifftop Malecón de la Reserva and Malecón Cisneros, with parks and Pacific views. The Larcomar shopping centre is built into the cliff.

Barranco

The artistic district just south of Miraflores, about 23 km from the airport, with boutique hotels, galleries, bars and the wooden Bridge of Sighs.

San Isidro

Lima’s business district, about 17 km from the airport and just north of Miraflores, with corporate hotels and the old olive grove park of El Olivar.

Historic centre

Hotels near the Plaza Mayor and the cathedral, about 15 km from the airport. Protests often happen here, and access to the area can be restricted.

When to book your Miraflores transfer

Lima is a year-round destination. December to April is summer on the coast, sunny and warm, and Limeños head for the beaches south of the city at weekends. From about June to November a low grey sky often covers the coast, with mild temperatures and very little rain.

The airport's busiest days come with Peru's long holidays. The Easter break runs from Holy Thursday 25 March to Easter Sunday 28 March 2027, and the national holidays of Fiestas Patrias fall on 28 and 29 July. The airport operator advises arriving at least three hours before an international flight and two hours before a domestic one, with extra time on peak dates.

This season needs one extra check. The UK Foreign Office says an El Niño event is expected from late 2026 to April 2027, with heavy rain, possible flooding and landslides, especially on Peru's northern and central coast, which could close roads. If you travel in that window, watch the local news. We track your flight, and your driver adjusts the route to the conditions on the day.

Who the Miraflores transfer suits

First night in Peru

After a long-haul flight, a named driver and a straight run to Miraflores beat sorting through taxi offers in the arrivals hall at the end of a long day.

Families

Child seats fitted before pickup (tell us the ages), and one price for the car. A minivan takes up to seven people with luggage for a long trip around Peru.

Travellers flying on to Cusco

Spending a night in Miraflores before an early flight to Cusco? Book the ride back to the airport at the same time, and we will time it around check-in.

Business travellers

San Isidro’s offices are on the way into Miraflores. Ask for a stop at a meeting before the hotel, all on one quote, with a quiet car for calls.

Plan the rest of your Lima stay

  • Book dinner early. Lima’s famous restaurants in Miraflores, Barranco and San Isidro are in high demand and can book up well ahead.
  • Walk the clifftop Malecón from Larcomar to the Parque del Amor in the late afternoon, when the sun drops towards the Pacific.
  • Keep your phone away when you stand at the kerb. The UK Foreign Office warns that motorbike riders snatch phones in Lima, and that robberies have happened in Miraflores and Barranco.
  • Use cash machines inside banks, supermarkets or shopping centres during business hours, as the UK Foreign Office suggests, rather than machines on the street.
  • Flying on to the Andes? Domestic flights to Cusco leave from the same terminal, and we meet you at Cusco Airport too. For Argentina, see Ezeiza Airport to Buenos Aires.
  • For the flight home, leave Miraflores about four hours before an international departure and three hours before a domestic one, and add time on weekday evenings.

Lima Airport to Miraflores: your questions

How long does it take from Lima airport to Miraflores?

About 40 minutes for the 21 km from the Jorge Chávez terminal on clear roads, mostly along the Costa Verde coast road. On weekday mornings and evenings Lima traffic can stretch that to an hour and a half. Barranco takes a few minutes longer, San Isidro a few minutes less. Early mornings, late evenings and Sundays are quickest.

How much does a private transfer from Lima airport to Miraflores cost?

You pay one fixed price for the whole vehicle, not per person. It depends on the size of car or van, the date and time, and any stops you add. Flight tracking and waiting time are included. Enter your trip above and we will email your price within 24 hours; nothing is charged until you accept it.

Is there a bus from Lima airport to Miraflores?

Yes. Airport Express Lima is the airport’s official bus, with four stops in Miraflores, including Larcomar and Parque Kennedy. It is good value for one or two people with light bags, but you still walk from the stop. For families, groups or a hotel away from the stops, a private car is simpler.

Is it safe to take a taxi at Lima airport?

The UK Foreign Office warns of robberies by criminals posing as taxi drivers at Jorge Chávez, and advises using the official taxi companies at the desks in arrivals. A pre-booked transfer is the other safe option: you know your driver’s name and number before you land, and they wait with a sign showing your name.

What happens if my flight to Lima is delayed?

Add your flight number when you book and we track it, so the pickup moves with any delay at no extra cost. Your 60 minutes of free waiting start when you actually land, which covers immigration and the baggage hall. If the delay runs past three hours, message us on WhatsApp: under our policy that can need a new booking, and we will help.

Which terminal does Lima airport use now?

Since 1 June 2025 all passenger flights at Jorge Chávez have used the new terminal on the west side of the airfield, which replaced the old one. International and domestic arrivals come out into separate halls, and departures check in on the third floor. Your driver waits at the arrivals hall for your flight.

Can you take us to Barranco, San Isidro or the historic centre instead?

Yes. Barranco is about 23 km from the airport, San Isidro about 17 km and the historic centre around the Plaza Mayor about 15 km. Enter the exact address in the form and we quote that trip. Planned stops, such as a meeting on the way, can be added to the quote.
