Seychelles airport to Beau Vallon: across Mahé in 25 minutes
Seychelles International sits on the east coast of Mahé at Pointe Larue, and Beau Vallon is on the opposite, north-west side of the island. The drive from Seychelles airport to Beau Vallon is only 13 km, but it runs through the capital, Victoria, and over the hill behind it, so allow about 25 minutes, more in the rush hour.
Your driver meets you as you come out of arrivals at Seychelles International Airport, helps with the bags and drives you to your hotel door. A taxi from the rank outside does the same trip, and the public bus needs a change in Victoria with your luggage. A pre-booked transfer is one fixed price for the whole car, agreed before you fly, with a driver who tracks your flight.
Beau Vallon is Mahé's most popular beach, a wide bay with clear water for snorkelling and diving, and a natural base before or after the ferry to Praslin and La Digue.

The drive from SEZ to Beau Vallon
From the terminal your driver heads north on the East Coast Road, the Providence Highway, past Cascade and Providence, then follows Bois de Rose Avenue along the reclaimed coast into Victoria, with Eden Island and the islands of the Sainte Anne Marine Park offshore. Victoria is small, but traffic from across the north of the island funnels through its centre, and this is where the time goes on a weekday morning or late afternoon.
From the centre the route climbs Saint Louis Road up the hillside behind the town, through the district of Saint Louis, then drops down the far side to Beau Vallon bay. That is the line on the diagram below: about 13 km. If the hill road is slow, your driver can go round the north coast through Glacis instead, a longer but scenic loop.
Mahé drives on the left. The UK Foreign Office describes its roads as narrow and winding, often with sheer drops and hairpin bends, not all with guardrails, and with deep open storm drains beside many of them. Potholes can appear suddenly after heavy rain. Local drivers handle these roads every day; they are a lot to take on in a hire car straight off a long-haul flight. Fuel and parking are included in your fixed price.
Allow about 25 minutes in normal traffic and up to 40 minutes at Victoria's busy times. Heavy tropical downpours can cut visibility quickly on the hill road, and drivers slow down when they do.

Meeting your driver at Seychelles Airport
Seychelles International has an international terminal and, a short distance to the north, a domestic terminal for inter-island flights. After immigration, baggage reclaim and customs, walk out of the international arrivals hall, where your driver waits with a name sign. Taxis also wait outside the arrivals terminal. Every visitor needs a Seychelles travel authorisation before flying, from the official portal at seychelles.govtas.com.
Seychelles International has an international terminal and, a short distance north of it, a separate domestic terminal for flights to Praslin and the other islands. Before you fly, apply for the Seychelles travel authorisation that all travellers need, through the official portal at seychelles.govtas.com.
After immigration, baggage reclaim and customs, walk out of the international arrivals hall, where your driver waits with a name sign. Add your flight number and we track it, so the pickup moves with any delay at no extra cost and your 60 minutes of free waiting start from your actual landing.
For your departure, the driver collects you from your hotel and waits up to 15 minutes from the agreed time. International check-in opens three hours before departure, so plan your pickup around that.

Where we drop off around Beau Vallon
Beau Vallon bay curves for a few kilometres along Mahé’s north-west coast, with hotels and guesthouses on the beach road and villas on the slopes behind. Every address is door to door. Some hillside drives are steep and narrow, so send us a map pin and tell us if your villa is up a private track, and we will match the vehicle to it.
Beau Vallon beachfront
The hotels along the main bay, a few steps from the sand. The beach road is narrow, and your driver stops at each hotel’s entrance or driveway.
Bel Ombre
West along the coast road from Beau Vallon, quieter, with guesthouses and villas towards the end of the road. A few minutes beyond the main beach.
Mare Anglaise and Glacis
North-east of the bay along the coast road towards North East Point, with smaller hotels and self-catering villas facing the sea.
Saint Louis and the hillside
Villas and apartments on the slopes between Victoria and Beau Vallon, many with sea or mountain views. Roads here are steep; share a map pin with the booking.

When to book your Beau Vallon transfer
The Seychelles is a year-round destination, and its weather follows two wind seasons rather than summer and winter. From about December to March the north-west monsoon blows onto Beau Vallon's side of the island, and the UK Foreign Office says west-coast beaches can be unsafe for swimming then. From about May to September the south-east trade winds make the east coast rough instead, and Beau Vallon is usually at its calmest.
Even in the calm months, Beau Vallon can have dangerous rip currents when the sea is rough, and lifeguards are few, so follow the warning signs and ask your hotel about conditions.
Heavy tropical downpours can arrive in any month. They cut visibility on the hill roads and leave potholes behind, which is one more reason to leave the driving to someone local on arrival day.
Christmas and New Year are popular weeks for hotels and ferries alike. If you are travelling then, book your transfer and your Cat Cocos tickets to Praslin early.
Private transfer vs other ways to reach Beau Vallon
| Option | Door to door | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 25–40 min | Straight to your door, fixed price per vehicle, driver waiting in arrivals. |
| Taxi | 25–40 minutes | Taxis wait outside the arrivals terminal. Some have meters; if not, agree the fare before you set off, as the Foreign Office advises. Fine if you are happy to sort it out on arrival. |
| Public bus | 1–1½ hours | Buses run from outside the airport to the bus station in Victoria, then a second bus crosses the hill to Beau Vallon. Low cost, but a change with luggage, and most buses stop by 20:00. |
| Rental car | 25–40 minutes plus pick-up | Hire desks are at the airport, and a UK photocard licence is valid for three months. Driving is on the left, on narrow, steep roads with open storm drains alongside. |

Vehicles, prices and what's included
You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Couples and solo travellers |
| Executive sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Mercedes E-Class or similar |
| Minivan | Up to 7 passengers | 6–7 suitcases | Families and golf or ski bags |
| Minibus | 8–16 passengers | One suitcase each | Groups, weddings, events |
Exact models vary by local partner. Tell us about oversized luggage, golf bags, skis or strollers and we will size the vehicle to fit.
Not included: waiting beyond the free time, and stops or detours added on the day. Planned stops are fine: ask for them with your quote and they are priced in. Tipping is up to you.
Who the Beau Vallon transfer suits
Island-hoppers
Trips to Praslin and La Digue begin and end on Mahé. A night or two at Beau Vallon before the ferry is easy when a car waits at arrivals and at the quay.
Families
Child seats fitted on request and one price for the car. The 25-minute drive suits tired children, and the bay is usually calmest from about May to September.
Divers and snorkellers
Beau Vallon is a base for diving and snorkelling on Mahé. Tell us about dive bags and fins when you book and we will send a vehicle with room for them.
Evening arrivals
Most buses stop by 20:00. For a late landing, a pre-booked driver tracking your flight is the simplest way over the hill road after dark.
Plan the rest of your Beau Vallon stay
- Apply for the Seychelles travel authorisation before you fly; the airport says every traveller needs one. Use the official portal, seychelles.govtas.com, rather than a look-alike site.
- Going on to Praslin or La Digue? Cat Cocos ferries take about 1 hour 15 minutes from Mahé to Praslin and 15 minutes more to La Digue. Be at the quay in Victoria 30 minutes before sailing.
- Flying to Praslin instead? Air Seychelles runs daily domestic flights from the terminal just north of international arrivals, so on a same-day connection you may not need a car at all.
- Watch the sea before you swim. The Foreign Office warns that Beau Vallon can have dangerous rip currents when the sea is rough, and few beaches have lifeguards.
- For your flight home, leave Beau Vallon about three and a half hours before an international departure: check-in opens three hours ahead, and Victoria traffic can add time.
- Twin-centre trip? We also meet flights for Belle Mare in Mauritius and Nungwi on Zanzibar, with the same fixed-price service.
- Connecting through Dubai? Break the journey with a night near the Burj Khalifa; we drive from DXB to Downtown Dubai.
