Tivat airport to Budva by private car
A Tivat airport to Budva transfer is a short ride along the Montenegrin coast: 19 km and about 25 minutes from the terminal to the Old Town, longer on summer evenings. Your driver meets you as you come out of arrivals at Tivat Airport and follows the Adriatic Highway south-east through the Grbalj valley to Budva.
Tivat is the airport for Montenegro’s coast, so most people landing here are heading for Budva, Bečići, Sveti Stefan or the Bay of Kotor. There is no train, and the buses on the coast road run to their own timetable rather than to flights. A booked car gives you one fixed price for the whole vehicle, a driver who tracks your flight and a drop-off as close to your door as the road allows.
Staying in Tivat or joining a yacht at Porto Montenegro is quicker still, about 4 km from the terminal. Flying into Croatia instead? See Dubrovnik Airport to the Old Town and our Montenegro transfers page.

The drive from TIV to Budva
From the terminal the road runs about 2 km south-east to the junction where the Vrmac tunnel leads off to Kotor. Your driver stays on the M-1, Montenegro’s section of the Adriatic Highway (E65/E80), and heads south-east across the Grbalj valley, a broad plain of fields and villages between the mountains and the sea.
After Lastva Grbaljska, at the far end of the valley, the road reaches the coast near Jaz Beach, a long beach and festival ground a couple of kilometres west of Budva. It then runs into town along the main road that parallels Slovenska plaža, the 1.6 km town beach, to the Old Town on its small rocky peninsula. There are no tolls on this route.
In normal traffic the trip takes about 25 minutes. In July and August Budva’s main road is often congested, so allow up to 50 minutes, particularly in the evening when the town fills up. Late-night and early-morning arrivals are usually quick.
Borders and money: Montenegro uses the euro but is not in the EU or the Schengen area, so everyone goes through passport control on arrival, including travellers from EU countries. In Budva the Old Town inside the walls is pedestrian only; tell us your address and the driver plans the closest stop.
Going the other way: Porto Montenegro, the superyacht marina built on Tivat’s former naval shipyard, is about 4 km north-west of the terminal, and Kotor’s walled old town about 8 km through the Vrmac tunnel.

Meeting your driver at Tivat Airport
Tivat has one compact passenger terminal. After passport control and baggage reclaim, walk out through the arrivals exit, where your driver waits holding a sign with your name. Montenegro is outside the Schengen area, so every passenger goes through passport control, which can take a while when several summer flights land together.
Tivat Airport has one compact passenger terminal. After passport control and baggage reclaim, walk out through the arrivals exit, where your driver waits with a sign showing your name. Montenegro is outside the Schengen area, so passport control applies to every arriving passenger and can take a while on busy summer afternoons.
Add your flight number when you book and we track it: the pickup moves with delays at no extra cost, and your 60 minutes of free waiting start when you actually land. Your driver’s name and phone number reach you before the trip.
For the trip back, your driver collects you from your hotel in Budva, Bečići or Sveti Stefan and waits up to 15 minutes from the agreed time. In July and August, choose a pickup that allows for slow traffic leaving Budva.

Where we drop off in Budva and along the riviera
The Old Town inside the walls is pedestrian only, so for apartments there your driver stops at the nearest point outside the walls. Hotels along Slovenska plaža, in Bečići and down to Sveti Stefan get door-to-door service. Some newer hotels and apartments sit on steep side streets above the beach, so share a map pin when you book.
Budva Old Town
Boutique hotels and apartments inside the walls. The car stops just outside the gates; the lanes inside are paved and narrow, so pack bags you can wheel or carry.
Slovenska plaža and central Budva
The 1.6 km town beach, lined with hotels, apartments and a seafront promenade. Most addresses are on or just off the main road and easy to reach by car.
Bečići and Rafailovići
Resort hotels on a long beach a few kilometres east of the Old Town, about 30 minutes from the airport in normal traffic.
Sveti Stefan and Miločer
The island resort and its neighbouring beaches, about 40 minutes from the airport. The island itself is private hotel ground; mainland hotels and villas are door to door.
Tivat and Porto Montenegro
The marina, its hotels and Tivat’s seafront are about 4 km from the terminal, around 10 minutes. Handy if you are joining a yacht before moving on to Budva.

When to book your Budva transfer
Montenegro’s coast is busiest from June to September, and Budva is its liveliest resort: in July and August the beaches, the promenade and the Old Town stay busy late into the night, and the main road through town is at its slowest.
Many flights to Tivat run only in the summer season, roughly from spring to autumn, so the airport is far quieter in winter. Budva’s annual Theatre City festival brings plays and concerts to the squares of the Old Town in summer, and Jaz Beach, just west of town, is used for big open-air concerts and festivals.
May, June and September are warm enough for the sea, with lighter traffic and a quicker transfer. If you can choose, a morning or late-evening arrival in high summer usually beats the afternoon rush into Budva.
Private transfer vs other ways to reach Budva
| Option | Door to door | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 25–50 min | Straight to your door, fixed price per vehicle, driver waiting in arrivals. |
| Taxi from the airport | 25–50 minutes | Taxis wait outside the terminal for arriving flights. Simple for a couple with light bags; ask for the fare to your hotel before you get in, and expect a queue when several flights land together. |
| Bus along the coast road | 45 minutes or more, plus walking | Regional buses link Tivat, Kotor and Budva, but they run to their own timetable rather than to flights, and you carry your luggage to and from the stops at each end. |
| Rental car | 25–50 minutes plus parking | Useful for touring the Bay of Kotor and the mountains, but parking in Budva is hard to find in July and August, and the Old Town is closed to cars. |

Vehicles, prices and what's included
You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Couples and solo travellers |
| Executive sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Mercedes E-Class or similar |
| Minivan | Up to 7 passengers | 6–7 suitcases | Families and golf or ski bags |
| Minibus | 8–16 passengers | One suitcase each | Groups, weddings, events |
Exact models vary by local partner. Tell us about oversized luggage, golf bags, skis or strollers and we will size the vehicle to fit.
Not included: waiting beyond the free time, and stops or detours added on the day. Planned stops are fine: ask for them with your quote and they are priced in. Tipping is up to you.
Who the Budva transfer suits
Yacht owners and crews
Porto Montenegro is minutes from the runway. We carry crew kit and owners’ luggage to the marina, or on to Budva and Kotor, in a minivan or minibus.
Families
Child seats fitted before you land and one price for the vehicle. A minivan takes up to seven with buggies and beach bags, straight to your hotel door.
Groups of friends
Budva’s beaches and nightlife draw groups all summer. A minibus carries 8 to 16 with luggage, and one fixed price splits easily across everyone.
Two-country trips
Flying into Tivat and home from Dubrovnik, or the reverse? We quote the cross-border leg too, door to door, via the Debeli Brijeg and Karasovići border posts.
Plan the rest of your Budva stay
- Kotor’s old town is only about 12 minutes from the airport via the Vrmac tunnel. With an evening flight home, a stop there with your luggage in the car is easy to add.
- Climb to the fortress above Kotor early in the morning. The path is steep and exposed, and by midday in summer it is hot and busy.
- Perast, the small baroque town facing the islet of Our Lady of the Rocks, is about 30 minutes from the airport by road and makes a calm half-day trip from Budva.
- Montenegro is outside the EU, so check your mobile plan before you land: EU roaming terms may not apply, and data charges can add up quickly.
- Flying home from Dubrovnik instead? It is about 75 km plus the border; leave Budva at least four hours before a summer departure from Dubrovnik Airport.
- For your flight home from Tivat, leave Budva about two hours before a European departure in July and August, and a little less out of season.
