Samui Airport to Chaweng in ten minutes
A private Samui Airport to Chaweng transfer is one of the shortest airport rides in Thailand: about 4 km from the open-air terminal at Samui International Airport to the middle of Chaweng Beach, the island's largest resort area. It takes about 10 minutes, and up to 20 in the evening, when Chaweng Beach Road fills with traffic.
On a trip this short, the reasons to book are comfort and certainty on arrival. The airport's shared minivans wait for enough passengers before they leave, the taxi counter is arranged after you land, and the local songthaews are pickup trucks with bench seats that mostly run in the daytime. A pre-booked driver is at the Meeting area when you walk out, loads the luggage once and takes you to the resort door, whether that is on the beach road, up a hillside in Chaweng Noi or round the bay at Choeng Mon.
The price is fixed for the whole vehicle, so a family or group pays per car, not per seat. Spending a night in Bangkok on the way? We also cover Suvarnabhumi to Sukhumvit.

The drive from USM to Chaweng
Samui International Airport sits in the north-east corner of the island, about 2 km north of Chaweng, so the drive is short. From the terminal your driver follows the airport road out to Route 4171, the road that links Choeng Mon with Chaweng, and turns south. Within a few minutes you reach the northern end of Chaweng Beach Road, which runs behind the resorts for several kilometres to the south. There are no tolls anywhere on the island.
For hotels along the beach road, that is the whole route. For the southern end of Chaweng, Chaweng Noi and Lamai, your driver may instead use the island's ring road, Route 4169, which runs inland behind Chaweng Lake. It is a little longer, but it avoids the slowest part of the beach road, with its shops, bars, crossing pedestrians and scooters pulling in and out.
Allow about 10 minutes to central Chaweng in normal traffic. From late afternoon into the evening, and on busy nights in high season, the beach road crawls in places and the trip can take 20 minutes. Choeng Mon and Big Buddha are even closer to the airport; Lamai, the island's other big beach, is about 25 minutes away on the ring road.
Many Chaweng resorts sit on side lanes between the beach road and the sea, and some hillside villas above Chaweng Noi are reached by steep, narrow drives. Send your hotel or villa name and a map pin, and we will send a vehicle that fits. Thailand drives on the left.

Meeting your driver at Samui Airport
A tram takes you from the aircraft to the arrivals building. International passengers go through immigration and collect their bags at Gate 5; domestic arrivals, including flights from Bangkok, collect bags at Gate 4. Then walk into the arrivals hall, where the transport and hotel counters are, and find your driver at the Meeting area holding a sign with your name. We send the driver's name and phone number before you fly.
Samui's terminals have an unusual open-air design rather than one big building. A tram carries you from the aircraft to the arrivals building, domestic or international. International passengers clear immigration and collect bags at Gate 5; domestic arrivals, including flights from Bangkok, collect bags at Gate 4. Then walk into the arrivals hall, where your driver waits at the Meeting area with a sign showing your name.
We track your flight, so delays move the pickup at no extra cost, and your 60 minutes of free waiting start when you actually land.
For the trip back, your driver collects you from your resort and waits up to 15 minutes from the agreed time. Leave Chaweng about two hours before an international flight and an hour and a half before a domestic one.

Where we drop off in Chaweng and nearby
Chaweng’s resorts line the beach road and the lanes between it and the sea, from the quieter north end to the busy centre around the Central Festival mall. Most have a drive or a drop-off bay at reception. Tell us the resort name, or share a map pin for a villa, and your driver takes you to the door. The north-east of the island is all within minutes of the airport.
Central Chaweng
Hotels on and behind the beach road around the Central Festival mall, with restaurants and nightlife on the doorstep. About 10 minutes, up to 20 in the evening.
North Chaweng
The calmer northern end of the bay and the closest part of Chaweng to the airport, with beachfront resorts and fewer bars. Under 10 minutes when the road is clear.
Chaweng Noi
The smaller bay south of the headland, with resorts on the beach and villas on the hillside above. About 15 to 20 minutes, often by the ring road.
Choeng Mon and Big Buddha
Quiet bays on the northern tip of the island, 5 to 10 minutes from the airport. Big Buddha pier, close by, has ferries to Koh Phangan.
Bophut and Fisherman’s Village
The old fishing village on the north coast, with boutique hotels, a beachfront walking street and restaurants. About 10 to 20 minutes west of the airport.

When to book your Chaweng transfer
Samui's weather runs on a different pattern from Phuket and the Andaman coast. The heaviest rain falls from mid-October to early December, with November the wettest month. From about January to August the weather is drier, with February and April the driest months, which is why the island's busy season runs from December through to August. Christmas, New Year and July–August are the fullest weeks, so book early for those dates.
Songkran, the Thai New Year water festival, runs from 13 to 15 April 2027. Expect water fights and slower traffic in busy areas such as Chaweng, and keep your phone and passport in a waterproof pouch. Loy Krathong falls on 24 November 2026, in the rainy season, when candlelit baskets are floated on water across Thailand.
In the wettest weeks, storms occasionally delay landings. We track your flight, so the pickup moves with it at no extra cost, and the short drive means you are at your resort soon after you collect your bags.
Private transfer vs other ways to reach Chaweng
| Option | Door to door | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 10–20 min | Straight to your door, fixed price per vehicle, driver waiting in arrivals. |
| Shared airport minivan | 20–45 minutes | Sold at the transport counter in the arrivals hall. Each van waits for a minimum number of passengers, often 15 to 30 minutes, then drops at several hotels on the way. |
| Airport taxi or limousine | 10–20 minutes | Booked at the transport counter after you collect your bags. Quick and direct, but you queue and arrange it on arrival, and the vehicle size depends on what is free. |
| Songthaew | 20–40 minutes | Shared pickup trucks with bench seats that circle the island’s ring road, mostly in the daytime. The lowest-cost way round, but with little room for suitcases. |
| Rental car | 10–20 minutes | Car hire counters are a short walk from arrivals. Useful for exploring the island later in your stay, though parking along Chaweng Beach Road is limited. |

Vehicles, prices and what's included
You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Couples and solo travellers |
| Executive sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Mercedes E-Class or similar |
| Minivan | Up to 7 passengers | 6–7 suitcases | Families and golf or ski bags |
| Minibus | 8–16 passengers | One suitcase each | Groups, weddings, events |
Exact models vary by local partner. Tell us about oversized luggage, golf bags, skis or strollers and we will size the vehicle to fit.
Not included: waiting beyond the free time, and stops or detours added on the day. Planned stops are fine: ask for them with your quote and they are priced in. Tipping is up to you.
Who the Chaweng transfer suits
Couples
After a long journey via Bangkok, a driver waiting at the Meeting area means no counter queue, and you are at your resort within minutes of collecting your bags.
Families
Child seats fitted before pickup and no wait for a shared van to fill. A minivan takes up to seven people with luggage, door to door in about 10 minutes.
Villa groups and weddings
Hillside villas above Chaweng Noi and Choeng Mon suit groups. A minibus for up to 16 brings everyone together, and we coordinate guests arriving on different flights.
Island hoppers
Heading to Koh Phangan or Koh Tao next? We drive from your resort to Big Buddha pier or Maenam, timed to your boat, with room for backpacks and dive bags.
Plan the rest of your Samui stay
- Moving between beaches later? Lamai is about 25 minutes from Chaweng on the ring road, and Bophut’s Fisherman’s Village about 15. We quote resort-to-resort transfers anywhere on the island.
- Island-hopping? Ferries to Koh Phangan leave from Big Buddha pier, close to the airport, and high-speed boats to Koh Tao from Maenam on the north coast. Book a timed pier transfer the day before.
- Chaweng Beach Road is slowest from late afternoon into the evening. If you have a dinner booking elsewhere on the island, leave in good time, or eat in Chaweng on your first night.
- Combining both coasts? Bangkok Airways links Phuket and Samui, so a week in Khao Lak pairs easily with the Gulf. See all our transfers in Thailand for other legs.
- For your flight home, leave Chaweng about two hours before an international departure and an hour and a half before a flight to Bangkok. The drive is short, so most of that time is check-in.
