Brisbane Airport to Gold Coast by private car

The drive from Brisbane Airport to Gold Coast hotels in Surfers Paradise is about 87 km, nearly all of it on motorway, and takes around 1 hour 15 minutes in normal traffic. Your driver meets you at Brisbane Airport, at the international or the domestic terminal, and takes you over the Gateway Bridge and down the M1 to your hotel door in Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Main Beach or Burleigh Heads.

The public option is the Airtrain, which runs through Brisbane and on to the Gold Coast, with a change to the G:link tram at Helensvale for the beachfront. It is good value for one or two people with light bags, but it takes much longer, and the last train leaves the airport at 10:04pm. A private car is the easier choice for families, groups sharing one price, surfers and golfers with big bags, and anyone landing late.

If your airline flies there, Gold Coast Airport at Coolangatta is much closer, about 30 minutes from Surfers Paradise. We drive from both airports; see our Australia transfers overview.

The drive from BNE to Gold Coast

From either terminal your driver joins the Gateway Motorway (M1) and heads south over the Brisbane River on the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges, formerly known as the Gateway Bridge. The Gateway is a toll road: the toll point sits just south of the bridges, it is charged electronically, and it is already in your price. At Eight Mile Plains the Gateway meets the Pacific Motorway, also signed M1, and from there it is a straight run south past Logan and Beenleigh to the northern Gold Coast.

At Coomera the motorway passes Dreamworld, and a few minutes further at Oxenford come Warner Bros. Movie World and Wet'n'Wild. For Surfers Paradise and Main Beach, the driver leaves the M1 for the Smith Street Motorway and crosses Southport to the coast. That is the line on the diagram, about 87 km. For Broadbeach the usual exit is Nerang–Broadbeach Road, and for Burleigh Heads and Coolangatta the driver stays on the M1 further south.

The M1 between Brisbane and the Gold Coast carries heavy commuter and holiday traffic. Southbound it is slowest on weekday afternoons from about 15:30 to 18:30 and on Friday afternoons at the start of school holidays, when the trip can stretch to nearly two hours. Early mornings, the middle of the day and evenings are usually close to the 1 hour 15 minute norm. Roadworks come and go on this corridor, so your driver checks the traffic before setting off.

Queensland drives on the left, like the rest of Australia. Night arrivals are the quickest of all: after about 20:00 the M1 is usually clear, and the trip can take a little over an hour.

Meeting your driver at Brisbane Airport

Brisbane has two terminals, International and Domestic, linked by a free transfer bus about every 10 minutes from 4am to 1:30am. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall of your terminal with a sign showing your name. At the international terminal the arrivals hall is on Level 2; at the domestic terminal, pre-booked cars use the limousine and rideshare road close to the building.

Brisbane has two separate terminals, the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal, linked by a free transfer bus that runs about every 10 minutes from 4am to 1:30am. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall of your terminal with a sign showing your name. At the international terminal the arrivals hall is on Level 2; at the domestic terminal, pre-booked cars use the limousine and rideshare road close to the building, so the walk to the car is short.

We track your flight, so delays move the pickup at no extra cost, and your 60 minutes of free waiting start when you actually land, which covers immigration and biosecurity queues. For the trip back, your driver collects you at your Gold Coast hotel and waits up to 15 minutes; we will suggest a pickup time that allows for the M1.

Where we drop off on the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is one long run of beach suburbs, and we go door to door along all of it. Cavill Avenue in Surfers Paradise is a pedestrian mall and the G:link tram runs down the Gold Coast Highway, so for some towers the car stops on the side street by the entrance. Tell us your hotel or apartment block and the driver plans the set-down.

Surfers Paradise

High-rise hotels and apartments on the Esplanade and around Cavill Avenue, the busiest part of the coast. We stop at your building entrance or the nearest side street.

Broadbeach

Resorts, the casino and the convention centre, with restaurants a short walk from the beach. About 91 km and 1 hour 15 minutes from the airport in normal traffic.

Main Beach and The Spit

Quieter resorts and apartments just north of Surfers, around Tedder Avenue and Sea World, closest to the motorway exit through Southport.

Burleigh Heads and the southern beaches

Smaller beach towns about 99 km from Brisbane Airport. Coolangatta, at the far southern end, is much closer to Gold Coast Airport.

Theme parks, Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove

Hotels near Dreamworld and Movie World, and the golf resorts at Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove, about an hour from Brisbane Airport.

When to book your Gold Coast transfer

The Gold Coast is busiest during the Australian school holidays, especially late December and January, Easter and the June–July winter break. Expect heavier traffic on the M1 on the Friday and Saturday when the holidays start.

The Gold Coast 500 Supercars race runs on a street circuit through Surfers Paradise and Main Beach from 23 to 25 October 2026, and the roads around the circuit close for the event. Schoolies celebrations take over Surfers Paradise for a week from late November, and the Gold Coast Marathon is usually held in early July. If your stay overlaps, tell us your hotel and we will plan the drop-off around closures.

Summer, from December to February, is hot and humid, with afternoon storms that can briefly slow the motorway. Queensland does not use daylight saving, so from October to early April it is an hour behind Sydney and Melbourne. If you are connecting from a southern city, check which time your flight shows.

Vehicles, prices and what's included

You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.

Executive sedanUp to 3 passengers2–3 suitcasesMercedes E-Class or similar

Exact models vary by local partner. Tell us about oversized luggage, golf bags, skis or strollers and we will size the vehicle to fit.

Not included: waiting beyond the free time, and stops or detours added on the day. Planned stops are fine: ask for them with your quote and they are priced in. Tipping is up to you.

Who the Gold Coast transfer suits

Families heading for the theme parks

Child seats fitted before pickup, room for prams and cases, and a drop-off at a Coomera or Oxenford hotel or straight to Surfers. One price for the whole car.

Groups and wedding parties

A minivan for up to seven or a minibus for up to 16, so everyone arrives together and shares one fixed price instead of buying separate train and tram tickets.

Surfers and golfers

Surfboards and golf bags are awkward on a train and tram. Tell us what you are carrying and we send a vehicle with room for it, such as a minivan.

Late arrivals

The last Airtrain leaves the airport at 10:04pm. After an evening landing, a pre-booked car is the simple way to reach the coast the same night.

Plan the rest of your Gold Coast stay

  • Planning theme park days? Book tickets online before you travel, and consider a hotel near Coomera or Oxenford to cut the morning drive.
  • Swim between the red and yellow flags. Surf lifesavers patrol the main beaches, including Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach and Burleigh Heads, and conditions change quickly.
  • The G:link tram now runs from Helensvale all the way to Burleigh Heads, so once you are at your hotel you can move along the coast without a car.
  • Gold Coast hotels often check in from mid-afternoon. If your flight lands in the morning, ask about storing bags so you can head straight to the beach.
  • Combining cities? We also drive Sydney Airport to the CBD and Melbourne Airport to the city, and Nadi Airport to Denarau if Fiji is next.
  • For your flight home from Brisbane, leave Surfers Paradise about 4 hours before an international departure and 3 hours before a domestic one, a little more on Friday afternoons.

Brisbane Airport to Gold Coast: your questions

How long is the drive from Brisbane Airport to the Gold Coast?

About 1 hour 15 minutes to Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach in normal traffic, for 87 to 91 km of motorway. On weekday afternoons and Friday afternoons before school holidays, allow up to 1 hour 50 minutes. Main Beach is slightly quicker, and Burleigh Heads takes about 1 hour 20 minutes. Theme park hotels at Coomera and Oxenford are under an hour away.

How much does a private transfer from Brisbane Airport to the Gold Coast cost?

You pay one fixed price for the whole vehicle, not per person, so a family or group shares it. The price depends on the vehicle size, the date and time, and any stops you add. The Gateway toll, fuel, parking and waiting time are included. Enter your trip above and we will email your price within 24 hours, with nothing to pay until you accept it.

Is the Airtrain a good way to get from Brisbane Airport to the Gold Coast?

For one or two people with light bags, it is good value. The Airtrain runs every 15 to 30 minutes and connects with the G:link tram at Helensvale for Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. But the trip takes about two hours or more door to door, involves a change, and the last train leaves the airport at 10:04pm. A car takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.

Should I fly into Gold Coast Airport instead of Brisbane?

If your airline offers it and the fare works, yes: Gold Coast Airport at Coolangatta is about 22 km and 30 minutes from Surfers Paradise, and closer still to Burleigh Heads and Coolangatta. Brisbane has many more international routes, though. We drive from both airports, so enter whichever you land at in the quote form.

Are the motorway tolls included?

Yes. The Gateway Motorway toll is charged electronically at the toll point just south of the Gateway Bridge, and it is included in your fixed price, along with fuel and parking. The Pacific Motorway to the Gold Coast is not tolled. There is nothing extra to pay the driver on the day.

What happens if my flight into Brisbane is delayed?

Add your flight number when you book and we track it, so the pickup moves with any delay at no extra cost. Your 60 minutes of free waiting start when you actually land. If the delay runs past three hours or your flight diverts to another airport, message us on WhatsApp: under our policy that can need a new booking, and we will help rearrange it.

Can you carry surfboards, golf bags and prams?

Yes, if we know in advance. Tell us how many boards, golf bags, prams or extra cases you have when you request a quote, and we will send a vehicle with room for them, usually a minivan for a family or group. Child seats are available on request; just tell us the children’s ages.
