Nadi Airport to Denarau by private car
The drive from Nadi Airport to Denarau is short and simple: about 12 km, around 20 minutes, from the arrivals area at Nadi International Airport to your resort lobby or the ferry terminal at Port Denarau Marina. Your driver meets you after customs, loads the bags and heads south on Queens Road, then across the short causeway onto Denarau Island.
Most Denarau resorts can arrange their own airport transfer, and the yellow taxis outside arrivals are quick for two people with light luggage, so a private car is not the only sensible choice. It is the better one for families who want child seats fitted, groups sharing one price, early arrivals heading straight to the island ferries, and anyone who would rather be met by name than sort out a taxi after a long flight. The price is fixed for the whole vehicle and agreed before you fly.

The drive from NAN to Denarau
From the terminal at Namaka, your driver joins Queens Road, the main highway around Viti Levu, and heads south towards Nadi. Depending on traffic, the driver either continues through Nadi town or, as on the diagram, turns off past Wailoaloa and takes the back road through Narewa village to Denarau Road. Both routes end at the short causeway over a creek onto Denarau Island, a private resort development with its own roads. The whole trip is about 12 km.
Nadi town is the slow part. Queens Road through the centre gets congested on weekday mornings and late afternoons, and the drive can then take 30 to 35 minutes. Outside those times it is usually around 20 minutes. There are no toll roads on the way.
On the island, the road loops past the 18-hole golf course to the beachfront resorts and to Port Denarau Marina, where you find the shops, restaurants and the terminal for the island ferries and day cruises. Your driver takes you to your resort's lobby or to the marina, whichever you need first, and can stop at the marina supermarket on the way if you ask in advance.
Fiji drives on the left. Queens Road is paved, but it runs through villages and town traffic, so local drivers take it steadily, especially after dark. The western side of Viti Levu is also drier than Suva and the east, so heavy rain rarely slows this short run for long.

Meeting your driver at Nadi Airport

Nadi International Airport is Fiji's main gateway and the hub of Fiji Airways. After immigration, baggage reclaim and the customs and biosecurity checks, you come out into the arrivals area, where tour and transfer companies meet their guests. Your driver waits there holding a sign with your name, then walks you to the car just outside.
Add your flight number when you book and we track it: if the flight is late, the pickup moves with it at no extra cost, and your 60 minutes of free waiting start from the actual landing. If you are heading straight to the ferries, tell us your sailing time so we can say whether the connection is realistic. For the return, your driver collects you from your resort lobby and waits up to 15 minutes.

When to book your Denarau transfer
Fiji is warm all year. May to October is the dry season, with sunnier, slightly cooler days, and the busiest time on Denarau, especially during the Australian and New Zealand winter school holidays. November to April is the wet season: hot and humid, with short, heavy afternoon downpours.
The official South Pacific cyclone season runs from 1 November to 30 April. When a cyclone threatens, ferries to the islands can be suspended and flights changed. If a storm alters your plans, message us on WhatsApp and we will rearrange the transfer, and free cancellation applies up to 48 hours before pickup.
Christmas, New Year and Easter are popular holiday weeks for families from Australia and New Zealand. If you are connecting to a Mamanuca or Yasawa resort on arrival day, book both the ferry and the transfer early and leave a comfortable gap after your landing time.
Private transfer vs other ways to reach Denarau
| Option | Door to door | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 20–35 min | Straight to your door, fixed price per vehicle, driver waiting in arrivals. |
| Taxi | 20–35 minutes | Yellow four-seat taxis wait outside the arrivals terminal, with seven-seat vans for bigger groups. Check whether the taxi is metered or agree the fare before you set off. |
| Resort transfer | 20–45 minutes | Most hotels can arrange airport transfers, some free and some charged. Ask your resort what it includes before you book anything else, and check whether vehicles are shared. |
| Public bus and taxi | 1–1½ hours | Queens Road buses stop at the airport and run to Nadi town, where you need a taxi or local bus on to Denarau. Low cost, but slow with luggage after a long flight. |

Vehicles, prices and what's included
You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Couples and solo travellers |
| Executive sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Mercedes E-Class or similar |
| Minivan | Up to 7 passengers | 6–7 suitcases | Families and golf or ski bags |
| Minibus | 8–16 passengers | One suitcase each | Groups, weddings, events |
Exact models vary by local partner. Tell us about oversized luggage, golf bags, skis or strollers and we will size the vehicle to fit.
Not included: waiting beyond the free time, and stops or detours added on the day. Planned stops are fine: ask for them with your quote and they are priced in. Tipping is up to you.

Plan the rest of your Denarau stay
- Island ferries ask passengers to check in about 30 minutes before departure at Port Denarau. Allow time for immigration and baggage before you plan a same-day connection.
- Ferry luggage limits can be tighter than airline ones: South Sea Cruises allows one bag of up to 25 kg plus a 7 kg carry-on. Ask your Denarau hotel about storing anything extra.
- Resort check-in is usually mid-afternoon. If you land early, ask about early check-in or spend the morning at the marina’s cafés and restaurants.
- Day cruises to the Mamanuca islands leave from the same marina. The Denarau shuttle bus and local taxis link the resorts with the port.
- Heading to the Coral Coast instead? Sigatoka is about 70 minutes from the airport along Queens Road, and we quote any resort along the way. Our Sydney Airport to the CBD transfer covers your connection through Sydney.
- For the flight home, leave Denarau about 3 hours before an international departure. The drive is short, but international check-in and security at Nadi take time.
