Delhi to Agra by car, straight off your flight
Most people travelling from Delhi to Agra are coming to see one building, and many want to be there on the day they land. A private car makes that simple: your driver meets you at Delhi Airport, loads the luggage once and drives the 233 km to your Agra hotel in about 3½ to 4½ hours, most of it on the six-lane Yamuna Expressway.
India’s fast trains are genuinely good on this line. The Gatimaan Express runs from Delhi to Agra in about 1 hour 40 minutes, but it leaves from Hazrat Nizamuddin station across the city, not from the airport, and only once a day. If you are spending a night in Delhi first, the train is worth a look. Straight off a long-haul flight, with suitcases and jet lag, the car usually gets you to Agra about as quickly and with far less effort.
The price is fixed for the whole vehicle, so a family or a small group shares one fare. Planning a longer trip around India? We quote the onward legs too.

The drive from DEL to Agra
Leaving Terminal 3, your driver crosses south Delhi on the Mehrauli–Badarpur Road, crosses the Yamuna at Kalindi Kunj into Noida and joins the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway. At Zero Point in Greater Noida this becomes the Yamuna Expressway, a 165 km, six-lane, access-controlled toll road that runs all the way to Agra. At the far end the car leaves the expressway and heads into the city, to the hotels around Fatehabad Road and the Taj Mahal’s East Gate.
The Delhi end sets the pace. The 53 km from the terminal to Zero Point take about an hour in light traffic and much longer in the weekday morning and evening peaks. Once on the expressway, the limit for cars is 100 km/h and the road is flat and straight, so the run to Agra takes about two hours. If Noida is jammed, your driver may take the older NH44 instead, through Faridabad, Palwal and Mathura: slightly shorter, but slower through the towns. Expressway tolls are included in your price.
On the way you pass Noida International Airport at Jewar, which opened to domestic flights in June 2026, and the interchange for Mathura and Vrindavan about two-thirds of the way down. Your driver will stop whenever you need a break.
Fog and night driving. From about mid-December to mid-February, dense fog can settle over the expressway at night and in the early morning, and the police lower the speed limit for cars (to 75 km/h in recent winters). Drivers slow down to match, and on the worst nights we may suggest an airport hotel in Aerocity and an early start instead. The rest of the year, evening arrivals are routine: the expressway is open around the clock.

Meeting your driver at Delhi Airport
International flights arrive at Terminal 3. After immigration, baggage reclaim and customs, walk out through the arrivals exit, where your driver waits with a sign showing your name. Private cars collect passengers from the marked pick-up lane outside T3 arrivals or from the multi-level car park opposite the terminal. Terminals 1 and 2 are domestic only; if you land there, your driver meets you outside that terminal’s arrivals exit.
International flights arrive at Terminal 3; Terminals 1 and 2 handle domestic flights only. At T3 your driver waits outside the arrivals exit with a sign showing your name, then walks you to the car at the private-car pick-up lane or in the multi-level car park opposite the terminal. On a domestic flight into T1 or T2? Your driver meets you outside that terminal’s arrivals exit instead.
Add your flight number and we track it: if your flight is delayed, including by winter fog, the pickup moves with it at no extra cost, and your 60 minutes of free waiting start when you actually land. Your driver’s name and mobile number reach you before the trip. For the return, the driver collects you from your Agra hotel and waits up to 15 minutes from the agreed time.

Where we drop off in Agra
Every hotel in Agra is door to door. The one place no car can go is the Taj Mahal: polluting vehicles are banned within 500 metres of the monument, so cars park at Shilpgram for the East Gate or at Amrood ka Teela for the West Gate. Battery buses and golf carts run from both car parks to the entrances. Tell us your hotel and the driver plans the last few streets.
Fatehabad Road and Taj East Gate Road
Agra’s main hotel district, a short ride from the Shilpgram car park and the East Gate. Many of the city’s larger hotels are on these two roads.
Taj Ganj
The old quarter of lanes just south of the Taj, full of guesthouses and rooftop cafés. Some lanes are too narrow for a car, so we stop at the nearest point.
Agra Fort and the riverside
Hotels and homestays near the red sandstone fort, about 4 km from the East Gate area, with views along the Yamuna.
Agra Cantt and Sadar Bazaar
The cantonment area around Agra Cantt station and the Sadar Bazaar shopping street, with mid-range hotels and easy access to the Jaipur road.
Mathura and Vrindavan
The temple towns off the expressway’s Mathura interchange, about 150 km from the airport. Door to door to hotels and ashrams, or as a stop on the way.

When to book your Agra transfer
Agra’s main season runs from October to March, when days are warm and dry and the Taj Mahal is at its busiest. From April to June afternoons are very hot, and July to September brings the monsoon, with greener gardens and fewer visitors.
December and January are fog season. Flights into Delhi can be delayed, and the expressway can be slow at night and early in the morning. We track your flight so the pickup moves with it; on the road, allow extra time and favour daytime driving.
The Taj Mahal is closed every Friday. On other days it opens 30 minutes before sunrise and closes 30 minutes before sunset. On five nights around each full moon it opens for small night-viewing groups between 20:00 and midnight, Fridays excepted. If you land on a Thursday evening, your first chance to visit is Saturday morning, so plan your nights around it.
Weekends and Indian festival holidays bring the biggest crowds; arriving at opening time is the surest way to beat them.
Private transfer vs other ways to reach Agra
| Option | Door to door | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 3h 30min – 4h 30min | Straight to your door, fixed price per vehicle, driver waiting in arrivals. |
| Gatimaan Express | 3½–4½ hours door to door | The fastest train on the line, about 1 hour 40 minutes from Hazrat Nizamuddin to Agra Cantt. It leaves once a day, at 08:10, and not on Fridays, so you need a morning landing and a taxi across Delhi first. |
| Vande Bharat Express | 3½–5 hours door to door | Vande Bharat chair-car trains also stop at Agra Cantt, including an afternoon departure from Hazrat Nizamuddin at about 14:40. Comfortable, but the same cross-city taxi from the airport applies. |
| Airport Express metro + train | 4–5 hours or more | The Airport Express Line runs from Terminal 3 to New Delhi station in about 25 minutes. Trains to Agra leave New Delhi through the day, but expect stairs, crowded platforms and a taxi at the Agra end. |
| Self-drive hire car | 3½–5 hours plus parking | The expressway itself is straightforward, but Delhi traffic and busy town roads at both ends make it a demanding first drive in India after a long flight, and no car can go near the Taj. |

Vehicles, prices and what's included
You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Couples and solo travellers |
| Executive sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Mercedes E-Class or similar |
| Minivan | Up to 7 passengers | 6–7 suitcases | Families and golf or ski bags |
| Minibus | 8–16 passengers | One suitcase each | Groups, weddings, events |
Exact models vary by local partner. Tell us about oversized luggage, golf bags, skis or strollers and we will size the vehicle to fit.
Not included: waiting beyond the free time, and stops or detours added on the day. Planned stops are fine: ask for them with your quote and they are priced in. Tipping is up to you.
Who the Agra transfer suits
Long-haul arrivals heading straight to the Taj
Land in the morning, sleep in the back seat and wake up in Agra. Many visitors then see the Taj Mahal at sunrise the next day, when the queues are shorter than at midday.
Families
One price for the car, child seats fitted before pickup (tell us the ages), and stops whenever someone needs one. A minivan takes up to seven people with their luggage.
Golden Triangle travellers
Starting a Delhi, Agra and Jaipur loop? We quote each leg. Agra to Jaipur is about 240 km, and your driver can stop at Fatehpur Sikri on the way.
Late-evening arrivals
The expressway runs 24 hours and is quieter after dark, so evening transfers are routine. In fog season we may suggest an Aerocity hotel overnight and a morning run instead.
Plan the rest of your Agra stay
- Buy Taj Mahal entry tickets online before you go, and avoid Fridays, when it is closed. Large bags, food, tripods and phone chargers are not allowed inside, so leave them at your hotel.
- Foreign nationals can fill in India’s e-Arrival card online in the 72 hours before landing. It is separate from your visa and speeds up immigration at Terminal 3.
- Pair the Taj with Agra Fort, about 4 km away, and Itimad-ud-Daulah, the "Baby Taj" across the river. Both open every day, so Friday is a good day for them.
- For a sunset view of the Taj without going in, Mehtab Bagh, the Mughal garden on the opposite bank of the Yamuna, faces the mausoleum across the water.
- Heading on to Jaipur? It is about 240 km, and Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar’s red sandstone city, makes a natural two-hour stop on the way. We quote the leg from your Agra hotel.
- For your flight home, leave Agra about seven hours before an international departure from Delhi, and earlier in December and January, when fog can slow the expressway.
- Combining India with Sri Lanka? Our Colombo Airport to Galle transfer works on the same fixed-price terms, and we also meet stopover flights in Dubai.
