Da Nang to Hoi An by car: what to expect
Hoi An has no airport or railway station, so almost every visitor makes the trip from Da Nang to Hoi An by road. From Da Nang International Airport it is about 30 km down the coast, past the Marble Mountains and the long beaches south of the city, and takes about 45 minutes in a private car. Since July 2025 both places belong to the same enlarged Da Nang city, but Hoi An keeps its own small-town character.
Ride-hailing cars and metered taxis wait at the airport and work well for a couple with two bags. A pre-booked car makes sense when you land late, travel with children or golf clubs, are heading to a villa down a lane in the rice fields, or simply want a driver who already knows where your hotel is and how close a car can get to it in the Old Town.
The price is fixed for the whole vehicle, so a family of five or a group of friends shares one fare. Planning a longer trip? See all our transfers in Vietnam.

The drive from DAD to Hoi An
From the terminals, your driver crosses the Han River on the Tien Son Bridge and heads south-east on Le Van Hien to the Marble Mountains, five limestone hills with caves and pagodas right beside the road, about 12 km from the airport. From there the route follows the beach boulevards, Truong Sa and Vo Nguyen Giap, south behind Non Nuoc beach.
South of the Marble Mountains the coast road, Lac Long Quan, runs past a long line of beach resorts and golf courses with the sea a few hundred metres to your left. Near the old boundary of Hoi An the route turns inland and enters the town from the north. Door to door it is about 30 km, and there are no tolls on the way.
In normal traffic the drive takes 40 to 45 minutes. Allow up to 55 minutes in the late afternoon, when the city roads in Da Nang are busiest, and on festival nights in Hoi An. Motorbikes make up most of the traffic in both places, so drivers keep a steady, careful pace rather than racing between lights.
The Old Town itself is protected. Its lanes are reserved for pedestrians and non-motorised vehicles for most of the day and evening, from about 9am to 9pm in winter and later in summer, and Phan Chau Trinh street joins the scheme in the evenings. Cars stop at the edge, and your driver drops you at the nearest point a vehicle can legally reach. Some Old Town hotels send a porter or a buggy to meet the car.

Meeting your driver at Da Nang Airport
Da Nang has two terminals side by side: Terminal 1 for domestic flights and Terminal 2 for international flights, linked by a covered walkway of about 5 minutes. We track your flight, and your driver waits at the arrivals exit of the right terminal, holding a sign with your name, then walks you to the car.

We track your flight, and your driver waits at the arrivals exit of the right terminal, holding a sign with your name.
If your flight is delayed, the pickup moves with it at no extra cost, and your 60 minutes of free waiting start when you actually land, which covers immigration and visa checks. For the trip back, your driver collects you from your hotel, or the nearest point a car can reach in the Old Town, and waits up to 15 minutes from the agreed time.

Where we drop off in Hoi An
Hoi An spreads well beyond the Old Town: riverside hotels, homestays in the rice fields, and beach resorts along the coast. Outside the protected centre, every address is door to door. For Old Town hotels, the car stops at the nearest street open to vehicles at that hour. Share your hotel name or a map pin, especially for villas down narrow lanes.
Old Town
The UNESCO-listed merchant quarter is closed to cars for most of the day and evening. We stop at the edge, usually a short walk from the hotel entrance.
Riverside and An Hoi
Hotels along the Thu Bon and Hoai rivers and on An Hoi islet, across the bridge from the Old Town. Some are door to door, others a short walk.
Cam Thanh and the rice fields
Villas and homestays among the paddies and the coconut palm waterways east of town. Lanes are narrow, so a map pin saves time.
An Bang Beach
A relaxed beach village about 4 km north of the Old Town, with small hotels and beach restaurants. Some guesthouses sit down sandy lanes a short walk from the road.
Cua Dai and the coast resorts
Beach resorts at Cua Dai, east of the Old Town, and along the coast road towards Da Nang. Every resort is door to door, with the driver stopping at the lobby.

When to book your Hoi An transfer
Central Vietnam has two seasons. The dry season, from about January to August, brings the most settled weather, and February to April are the driest months. The typhoon and wet season runs from September to December, with October the wettest month. Heavy rain can flood the low riverside streets of the Old Town and slow the roads, and an approaching storm can delay flights. If your plans change, message us and we will move the pickup.
On the 14th night of every lunar month, the eve of the full moon, the Old Town holds its traditional night: electric lights give way to lanterns and candles, and the streets fill with music and folk games. Arriving that evening means busier roads into town, so allow the full 55 minutes.
Tet, the Lunar New Year, falls on 6 February 2027. Hoi An is lively and hotels fill, while some family businesses close for a few days. Book early if you are travelling then.
Private transfer vs other ways to reach Hoi An
| Option | Door to door | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 40–55 min | Straight to your door, fixed price per vehicle, driver waiting in arrivals. |
| Ride-hailing app | 40–55 minutes plus wait | Ride-hailing cars are widely used in Da Nang and pick up at the airport. Fares change with demand, and you find the car outside yourself. Larger cars and child seats are not guaranteed. |
| Metered taxi | 40–55 minutes | Taxis queue outside the arrival halls. Use the larger, well-known companies and check the meter is running. Fine for two people; a family with luggage may need a seven-seat taxi. |
| Shared shuttle bus | 1–1½ hours | Some operators run scheduled shared minibuses from the airport or central Da Nang to Hoi An hotels. Cheaper per person, but you wait for other passengers and the route makes several stops. |

Vehicles, prices and what's included
You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Couples and solo travellers |
| Executive sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Mercedes E-Class or similar |
| Minivan | Up to 7 passengers | 6–7 suitcases | Families and golf or ski bags |
| Minibus | 8–16 passengers | One suitcase each | Groups, weddings, events |
Exact models vary by local partner. Tell us about oversized luggage, golf bags, skis or strollers and we will size the vehicle to fit.
Not included: waiting beyond the free time, and stops or detours added on the day. Planned stops are fine: ask for them with your quote and they are priced in. Tipping is up to you.
Who the Hoi An transfer suits
Families
Child seats fitted before pickup, and a minivan for up to seven with luggage. Much calmer than finding a large enough taxi outside arrivals with tired children.
Golfers
Several courses lie on the coast between Da Nang and Hoi An. Tell us the number of golf bags and we send a vehicle with room for them all.
Couples and honeymooners
Straight from arrivals to a beach resort or a riverside hotel, with a driver who knows how close the car can get to an Old Town address.
Weddings and groups
Hoi An is popular for destination weddings. Minibuses carry up to 16 guests, and we can coordinate cars for guests landing on different flights.
Plan the rest of your Hoi An stay
- Buy an Old Town ticket before you explore the historic houses, temples and assembly halls. It covers entry to a set number of sites, and you keep the stub for re-entry.
- Visit the Old Town early in the morning, before the day-trip groups, or after dark when the lanterns are lit. Midday in summer is very hot on the stone streets.
- Check the lunar calendar before you go: the full-moon lantern night falls on the 14th day of each lunar month and is the most atmospheric evening of the month.
- The Marble Mountains and Ba Na Hills make easy half-day or day trips from Hoi An. We quote hotel-to-hotel rides, with planned stops and waiting time added to the quote.
- For your flight home, leave Hoi An about three hours before an international departure and two and a half hours before a domestic one. Allow more on lantern nights and in heavy rain.
- Combining Vietnam with another city? We also run transfers from Hong Kong Airport into Central and the Mid-Levels and from Bali’s airport to Ubud.
