Larnaca Airport to Ayia Napa by private car
A private transfer from Larnaca Airport to Ayia Napa covers 58 km of motorway in about 50 minutes. Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Larnaca Airport, loads the cases and takes the A3 east along the coast to your door, whether that is a hotel by the monastery square, a resort on Nissi Avenue or a villa near Cape Greco.
The shared airport shuttle is a fair choice for a couple travelling light. It runs to a timetable and stops at two points in Ayia Napa, and from there you walk or take a taxi with your bags. A private car makes more sense for families, groups of friends and anyone landing late at night. The price is fixed for the whole vehicle, so six people on a summer break pay the same as two.
Staying in Protaras or by Fig Tree Bay? It is about 10 minutes further along the same road, and we quote it in the same way. Heading west for business or a second week? See Larnaca to Limassol.

The drive from LCA to Ayia Napa
From the terminal your driver joins the A3 motorway, which starts at the airport junction and runs about 55 km to the main roundabout above Ayia Napa. It first loops north round Larnaca as a bypass, past the Kalo Chorio junction, where the A5 leaves for Limassol, and the Aradippou junction for the A2 to Nicosia. It then turns east past Livadia and Oroklini towards the coast.
Beyond Pyla, the motorway runs for about 16 km through the British Sovereign Base Area of Dhekelia. There are no stops or checks; it is simply part of the road. The A3 then passes Xylofagou and crosses the Kokkinochoria, the "red villages" named after their red soil, by Liopetri and Agia Thekla, before coming into Ayia Napa from the north.
Cyprus drives on the left, a legacy of British rule, which is one more reason not to pick up a hire car after a flight. Your driver handles the roads, and fuel and parking are part of the fixed price. The whole journey stays in the south of the island. Ayia Napa and Protaras sit in the part of Famagusta district south of the Green Line, and the A3 never goes near a crossing point, so there are no checkpoints and no extra documents.
The trip takes about 50 minutes at most times of day. Weekday rush hours on the Larnaca bypass and summer evenings on the last stretch into town can add 10 to 15 minutes, so allow up to 65. At night the A3 is quiet and the drive is at its quickest.

Where we drop off in Ayia Napa and Protaras
Every hotel, apartment and villa in Ayia Napa and Protaras can be reached by car. The one exception is the area round the monastery square, the town's nightlife centre, where the streets fill up on summer nights and the driver may stop a short walk away. Share your accommodation name or a map pin when you book, especially for villas on the quieter lanes around Cape Greco.
Ayia Napa centre and the monastery square
The Venetian-era monastery stands next to the square that is now the clubbing centre. Hotels and apartments around it are a short walk from the harbour, bars and restaurants.
Nissi Beach and Nissi Avenue
West of the centre, resort hotels line Nissi Avenue and the Sandy Bay (Vathia Gonia) area, a short walk from Nissi Beach, the resort’s headline Blue Flag beach.
Makronissos, Landa and Agia Thekla
Larger resort complexes further west, in a quieter setting close to WaterWorld waterpark and the calmer beaches. They are reached from the Agia Thekla junction of the A3.
Cape Greco and Konnos Bay
The headland between Ayia Napa and Protaras is a national forest park with sea caves and small coves. Villas and hotels sit along the road on its edges.
Protaras and Fig Tree Bay
About 10 km north-east of Ayia Napa, in Paralimni municipality. Quieter, with less of a club scene and more families, around Fig Tree Bay. About an hour from the airport.

When to book your Ayia Napa transfer
Ayia Napa is a summer resort. The main season runs from May to October, with the busiest nightlife from June to August, and outside those months many hotels and venues cut their hours or close for the winter. Arriving in April, early June or from late September to October gives you warm sea and quieter roads.
The Ayia Napa International Festival, held in Seferis Square by the monastery since 1985, usually takes place over the last weekend of September, with concerts, theatre and Cypriot folk traditions. The centre is busy on those evenings, so allow a few extra minutes for the last stretch to your hotel.
From June to August, plan ahead. The shuttle operator advises booking early because popular departures fill up. A pre-booked car is already waiting in the arrivals hall whatever time you land, and the 60 minutes of free waiting cover a slow passport queue on a busy night.
Private transfer vs other ways to reach Ayia Napa
| Option | Door to door | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 50 min – 1h 5min | Straight to your door, fixed price per vehicle, driver waiting in arrivals. |
| Kapnos Airport Shuttle | 1–1¼ hours | A shared coach from the stop outside the terminal, about 45 minutes on the A3 to two stops in Ayia Napa: the square and Nissi Avenue. One 20 kg case each, fixed departures, and a walk or taxi to your hotel. |
| Airport taxi | 50–65 minutes | Licensed taxis wait at the rank on the right as you leave the arrivals hall, 24 hours a day. You queue on arrival and pay a metered fare, without knowing the total before you set off. |
| Rental car | 50–65 minutes plus pick-up | The A3 is an easy road, but Cyprus drives on the left, which tires many visitors after a flight. Add time for the rental desk, and check that your hotel has parking in summer. |

Vehicles, prices and what's included
You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Couples and solo travellers |
| Executive sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Mercedes E-Class or similar |
| Minivan | Up to 7 passengers | 6–7 suitcases | Families and golf or ski bags |
| Minibus | 8–16 passengers | One suitcase each | Groups, weddings, events |
Exact models vary by local partner. Tell us about oversized luggage, golf bags, skis or strollers and we will size the vehicle to fit.
Not included: waiting beyond the free time, and stops or detours added on the day. Planned stops are fine: ask for them with your quote and they are priced in. Tipping is up to you.
Who the Ayia Napa transfer suits
Families
Child and booster seats fitted before you land, and one price for the vehicle rather than per seat. A minivan carries up to seven people with suitcases, pushchairs and beach gear.
Groups of friends
Ayia Napa’s summer nightlife draws groups. A minibus takes 8 to 16 people and all their bags in one trip, straight to the apartment, with the fixed price split however you like.
Night arrivals
The shared shuttle has no departures between about 23:25 and 02:30. Land in that gap, or late on a busy summer night, and a pre-booked car is already waiting in arrivals.
Villa guests around Cape Greco
Villas and quieter hotels near Cape Greco and Protaras are well away from the shuttle stops. The car takes you to the gate, with a supermarket stop on the way if you ask.
Plan the rest of your Ayia Napa stay
- Ayia Napa has more Blue Flag beaches than any other resort in Cyprus, so you rarely need to go far. Nissi Beach is the famous one; Makronissos and Landa, to the west, are calmer.
- Walk or drive out to Cape Greco National Forest Park early in the day, before the heat. The sea caves and cliff paths are a few minutes east of town, on the way to Protaras.
- The club scene centres on the streets round the monastery square. If you want quiet nights, choose a hotel west towards Makronissos or north-east in Protaras.
- Bringing diving kit? Green Bay in Protaras is the most popular dive site in the area, with underwater statues for first-time divers. Mention large kit bags when you book.
- Moving on later in the trip? We quote hotel-to-hotel rides along the south coast, including to Limassol and its marina, and day trips with planned stops.
- For the flight home, leave Ayia Napa about three hours before departure. The drive takes 50 to 65 minutes, which leaves two hours at the airport for check-in and security on a busy summer weekend.
