KLIA to KLCC: train, taxi or private car?
Kuala Lumpur's airport sits in Sepang, a long way south of the city, so the trip from KLIA to KLCC is about 58 km whichever terminal you land at. By private car it takes about an hour in normal traffic: your driver meets you at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, loads the bags once and drops you at the door of your hotel or apartment by the Petronas Twin Towers.
The rail link is genuinely good. The KLIA Ekspres runs non-stop to KL Sentral in 28 minutes from Terminal 1, and the LRT covers the last five stops to KLCC. If you travel light and land in the daytime, it is hard to beat. The car makes more sense for families, groups, heavy luggage, late arrivals, or hotels away from the KLCC station exits, because you skip the change at KL Sentral.
The price covers the whole vehicle, with every expressway toll included. See our Malaysia transfers for other routes in the country.

The drive from KUL to KLCC
Leaving either terminal, your driver heads north on the airport expressway and then up the road that runs along the eastern edge of Cyberjaya, the technology town built beside Putrajaya, Malaysia's government capital. From there the Maju Expressway (MEX) carries you north past the National Stadium at Bukit Jalil to the southern edge of the city. Jalan Sungai Besi and Jalan Tun Razak bring you round to the KLCC district and the Petronas Twin Towers. Door to door it is about 58 km.
There is more than one good way in. When MEX is slow, drivers can use the North–South Expressway or the ELITE highway instead, and the choice depends on the traffic that day. All of these are toll roads, and every toll is included in your fixed price.
In normal traffic the transfer takes about an hour. Kuala Lumpur's rush hours are heavy: weekday mornings into the city and, above all, weekday evenings and Friday afternoons, when the city end of the drive slows to a crawl. Allow up to an hour and a half at those times, and a little longer in a tropical downpour, when traffic slows right down.
Malaysia drives on the left. Late at night and early in the morning the expressways are clear and the drive usually takes a little under an hour. The Petronas Towers come into view on the approach along Jalan Tun Razak, a few minutes before you arrive.

Meeting your driver at KLIA
Check whether you land at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2: they are separate buildings, a 3-minute train ride apart. We track your flight, and your driver waits in the public arrivals hall of the right terminal after customs, holding a sign with your name, then walks you to the car.
KLIA has two terminals in separate buildings: Terminal 1 for most full-service airlines and Terminal 2, opened in 2014 for low-cost carriers such as AirAsia. They are a 3-minute train ride apart, so check your ticket. We track your flight and your driver waits in the public arrivals hall of the right terminal, holding a sign with your name, then walks you to the car.
If your flight is delayed, the pickup moves with it at no extra cost, and your 60 minutes of free waiting start when you actually land, which covers immigration queues. For the return to KLIA, your driver collects you from your hotel lobby and waits up to 15 minutes from the agreed time.

Where we drop off in KLCC and central Kuala Lumpur
Every address in the city is door to door. KLCC is a compact district of hotels, serviced apartments, offices and the Suria KLCC mall around a large park, with the Golden Triangle and Bukit Bintang a short drive south. Tell us your hotel or building, and the driver plans the approach around the one-way loops of Jalan Ampang and Jalan Sultan Ismail.
KLCC and the Petronas Twin Towers
Hotels and serviced apartments around KLCC Park, Suria KLCC and the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Cars set down at the lobby or the convention entrance.
Jalan Ampang and Jalan Sultan Ismail
Business hotels, embassies and offices along the two main avenues of the Golden Triangle, a few minutes from the Twin Towers.
Bukit Bintang
The shopping and nightlife district around Pavilion and Jalan Alor, about 2 km south of KLCC. Busy streets in the evening, so a pinned hotel entrance helps.
KL Sentral and Brickfields
Hotels around the main rail hub on the west side of the centre, handy if you are catching a train onward or meeting colleagues off the KLIA Ekspres.
Chinatown and Merdeka Square
Heritage hotels and guesthouses around Petaling Street and the old colonial core. Some lanes are narrow, so the driver may stop at the end of the street.

When to book your KLCC transfer
Kuala Lumpur has no off-season: it is hot and humid all year, with rain in every month. On the west coast of the peninsula, October and November are usually the wettest months and February the driest. Downpours tend to be short and heavy, and they slow the expressways while they last.
The Malaysian MotoGP at Sepang International Circuit, about 20 minutes from the airport, runs from 30 October to 1 November 2026. Roads around KLIA are busier that weekend, so allow extra time on the way back.
Chinese New Year falls on 6 and 7 February 2027, and Hari Raya Aidilfitri, at the end of Ramadan, is expected around 10 March 2027. Before both holidays, many residents drive home to their families and the highways out of Kuala Lumpur are at their busiest; during the holidays themselves the city is unusually quiet. Book early if you are flying in at either time.
Private transfer vs other ways to reach KLCC
| Option | Door to door | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 1h – 1h 30min | Straight to your door, fixed price per vehicle, driver waiting in arrivals. |
| KLIA Ekspres + LRT | 50–70 minutes | Non-stop to KL Sentral in 28 minutes from Terminal 1, with Terminal 2 a 3-minute hop away. Then five stops on the LRT Kelana Jaya Line to KLCC station. Quick, with one change carrying your bags. |
| Airport coach | 1–1½ hours + onward trip | Coaches run from both terminals to KL Sentral. They are the lowest-cost option, but slower than the train and caught in the same traffic as cars, with a second leg to KLCC. |
| Airport taxi or ride-hailing | 1–1½ hours | Taxi counters in arrivals sell fixed-fare coupons, and ride-hailing apps have their own pick-up points. You queue, find the car and arrange child seats yourself. |

Vehicles, prices and what's included
You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, not per seat, quoted for your date and group before you book. Tolls, fuel and parking are in the price, and so is waiting time: 60 minutes from your actual landing, or 15 minutes at a hotel or address pickup.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Couples and solo travellers |
| Executive sedan | Up to 3 passengers | 2–3 suitcases | Mercedes E-Class or similar |
| Minivan | Up to 7 passengers | 6–7 suitcases | Families and golf or ski bags |
| Minibus | 8–16 passengers | One suitcase each | Groups, weddings, events |
Exact models vary by local partner. Tell us about oversized luggage, golf bags, skis or strollers and we will size the vehicle to fit.
Not included: waiting beyond the free time, and stops or detours added on the day. Planned stops are fine: ask for them with your quote and they are priced in. Tipping is up to you.
Who the KLCC transfer suits
Families
Child seats fitted before pickup, and a minivan for up to seven with luggage. No change at KL Sentral with a pushchair and tired children after a long flight.
Business travellers
Straight from arrivals to an office tower or the Convention Centre, with a quiet car for calls and no queue at the taxi counter.
Late arrivals
Landing late, after a long-haul flight? Your driver is in the hall whatever the time, and the expressways are clear at night.
Groups and friends
One price for the vehicle rather than per seat, so the cost is shared. A minivan takes up to seven with bags, and a minibus up to sixteen.
Plan the rest of your Kuala Lumpur stay
- Complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online before you fly. Most foreign visitors need it; check the Immigration Department website for the current rules.
- Tickets for the Petronas Twin Towers skybridge and observation deck are sold for timed slots. Book online a day or two ahead rather than queuing on the day.
- Rain in the afternoon? Aquaria KLCC, the aquarium in the Convention Centre building, is a short walk from Suria KLCC and a good plan with children.
- If you take the train back to the airport, Malaysia Airlines and Batik Air passengers can check in bags at KL Sentral before boarding the KLIA Ekspres.
- For your flight home, leave KLCC about three hours before an international departure, and add 30 to 45 minutes on weekday evenings or Friday afternoons.
- Travelling on through the region? We also meet flights for the short run from Changi into Marina Bay and for the drive from Suvarnabhumi into central Bangkok.
