Private transfers across Jordan
Jordan's highlights are spread out. Queen Alia Airport, 30 km south of Amman, is about 70 minutes from the resorts on the Dead Sea and three and a quarter hours from Petra, with Wadi Rum further south. The airport's scheduled bus only goes into Amman, and coaches to Petra leave from city bus stations, not the airport.
A private transfer takes you from the arrivals hall to your hotel in one go, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle, with planned stops such as Madaba, Mount Nebo or Kerak Castle added to the quote. Your driver tracks your flight and waits past customs while you clear the visa queue. We also quote hotel-to-hotel legs between the Dead Sea, Petra and Wadi Rum, so a tour of the country can run on one set of terms.
Desert Highway and King’s Highway
Two roads run south from Amman. Highway 15, the Desert Highway, is the fast route across a flat plateau towards Petra, Wadi Rum and Aqaba, about three hours to Petra. The King's Highway, Route 35, is the ancient road along the mountains through Madaba, across the Wadi Mujib canyon and past Kerak and Shobak castles, about four hours to Petra before stops.
Down in the Jordan Valley, Highway 65, the Dead Sea Highway, runs along the shore. Jordan drives on the right.
Visas and the Jordan Pass
Visitors of many nationalities can buy a single-entry visa on arrival at Queen Alia, valid for one month; some must apply in advance. The Jordan Pass, bought before you travel, waives the visa fee if you stay at least two consecutive nights and includes entry to Petra and more than 40 other attractions.
When to travel
October to May is the most comfortable time for Petra and the Dead Sea; summer days are very hot in the desert and the Jordan Valley. Jordan's weekend is Friday and Saturday, when families from Amman head for the Dead Sea. Flight schedules into Amman have changed at short notice during 2026, so check with your airline and read your government's latest travel advice before you fly.
