Private transfers across Malta
Malta is small enough that no transfer is long: from the airport at Luqa, Valletta is about 15 minutes away and the ferry to Gozo, at the northern tip of the island, under an hour. What slows things down is traffic: car ownership is very high, there are no motorways, and vehicles keep to the left, so a local driver who knows the junctions is worth having.
We drive from Malta International Airport to St Julian’s, Paceville and Sliema, and quote any address on Malta: Valletta hotels, the resorts of Buġibba and Mellieħa, Mdina and the villages inland, and the Gozo Channel terminal at Ċirkewwa. Your driver waits in the Welcomers’ Hall with a name sign, and the price is for the whole vehicle, so families and groups share it.
Driving and road rules
Traffic in Malta drives on the left, as in the UK, Ireland and Cyprus. There are no motorways, only main roads that run through and around the towns, and car ownership is exceptionally high, with more than 1,200 registered vehicles per square kilometre. Short distances can still take time at rush hour on the main roads into the harbour towns.
Your driver handles all of that, and fuel, parking and waiting time are included in your fixed price. If you plan to hire a car later in your stay, give yourself a day or two to get used to the roads first.
Getting around Malta and Gozo
Malta Public Transport runs the island's buses, including the Airport Direct routes from the airport to Valletta, St Julian’s, Sliema, Buġibba, Mellieħa and Ċirkewwa. A short ferry crossing links Sliema with Valletta across Marsamxett Harbour.
For Gozo, the Gozo Channel car ferry sails from Ċirkewwa, at the northern tip of Malta, to Mġarr, and a fast passenger ferry runs from Valletta. We can drive you to either terminal, from the airport or your hotel.
When to travel
The main season runs from April to October, with July and August the busiest months, when village festas fill summer evenings with processions and fireworks. Carnival comes to Valletta in the days before Lent, and Holy Week brings processions across the islands. The Rolex Middle Sea Race starts from the Grand Harbour on 17 October 2026.

Malta airport transfers: your questions
How long is the transfer from Malta Airport to St Julian’s?
About 20 minutes for 10 km in normal traffic, and up to 40 minutes in the weekday rush hours. See Malta Airport to St Julian’s for the route, drop-off areas and bus options.
Does Malta drive on the left?
Yes. Malta is one of four European countries that drive on the left, along with the UK, Ireland and Cyprus. With a transfer, a local driver takes care of it.
Can you take us to the Gozo ferry?
Yes. The Gozo Channel ferry leaves from Ċirkewwa, about 40 minutes to an hour from the airport by car. The fast ferry to Gozo leaves from Valletta. Enter either terminal in the quote form.
Can we stop on the way, for example in Mdina?
Yes. Planned stops can be added to your quote: tell us where and for how long, and the waiting time is priced in. Your luggage stays in the car while you visit.
