Private transfers across Croatia
Croatia’s famous coastal towns are walled, car-free or out on islands, so the last few kilometres from the airport matter. Dubrovnik Airport is 21 km from an Old Town that is pedestrian inside the walls, with a permit-only traffic zone around it from March to November. Split Airport sits in Kaštela, about 30 minutes from Diocletian’s Palace and the ferry piers for Brač, Hvar, Vis and Šolta.
We drive from Dubrovnik to the Old Town, Lapad, Cavtat and the cruise port at Gruž, and from Split to the city centre and ferry port, Trogir and the Makarska Riviera. Your driver meets you in arrivals, tracks your flight and plans the closest legal drop-off for your address.
Many visitors combine Croatia with Montenegro. For the Bay of Kotor and Budva, see Tivat Airport to Budva and our Montenegro page.
Roads, tolls and borders
The D8 Adriatic coast road links almost every town on the coast, and the A1 motorway runs inland from Zagreb past Split towards Ploče. Any motorway tolls are included in your transfer price. Since the Pelješac Bridge opened on 26 July 2022, the drive between Split and Dubrovnik can stay entirely in Croatia, avoiding the two border crossings at Neum.
Croatia adopted the euro and joined the Schengen area in 2023. The borders with Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina are external Schengen borders, so carry passports; non-EU travellers have their entry and exit recorded in the EU Entry/Exit System, fully in operation since April 2026.
Car-free old towns
Dubrovnik’s Old Town and Split’s Diocletian’s Palace are pedestrian. In Dubrovnik, a camera-controlled zone around the walls, including Pile and Ploče, admits only permitted vehicles from 1 March to 30 November. In Split, the car stops at the nearest open street, usually by the harbour.
Tell us your exact address and we confirm the closest legal drop-off with your quote, and how far the walk is.
When to travel
The coast is busiest from June to September and peaks in July and August, when coast-road traffic and ferry queues set journey times. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival runs each year from 10 July to 25 August. May, June and September bring warm seas and quieter roads, and winter is calm, with fewer flights.

Croatia airport transfers: your questions
Can a private transfer drive into Dubrovnik Old Town?
No vehicle drives inside the walls. From March to November the streets around them are a permit-only zone, so we drop you at Pile Gate, Ploče Gate or the nearest legal point, and confirm it with your quote. See Dubrovnik airport to Old Town.
Are motorway tolls included in the price?
Yes. Tolls, fuel, parking and waiting time are all included in your fixed price for the vehicle.
Do you drive between Split and Dubrovnik?
Yes. The drive takes about 3½ to 4½ hours via the Pelješac Bridge, which keeps the route inside Croatia. Enter both addresses in the quote form, and add any stops you would like, such as Ston.
Can you take us across the border to Montenegro?
Yes. From Dubrovnik Airport, Herceg Novi is about 50 minutes away, Kotor 1½ to 2 hours and Budva about 2 hours, plus time at the border. Carry passports for everyone in the car.
